A good chance smoking does NOT cause cancer.....
Just read a nice story about the connection between the above ground nuclear testing and lung cancer.....could be our wonderful goverment put enough radioactive material in the air during the days of above ground testing that it is what really gives you lung canccer....just easier to blame smoking insted of finding out the US nuclear testing killed all those people

Excerp:

The overall magnitude of lung cancer risk to humans from atmospheric radioactive fallout cannot be overstated.

Before Russia, Britain and America outlawed atmospheric testing on August 5, 1963, more than 4,200 kilograms of plutonium had been discharged into the atmosphere.

Because we know that less than one microgram (millionth of a single gram) of inhaled plutonium causes terminal lung cancer in a human, we therefore know that your friendly government has lofted 4,200,000,000 (4.2 Billion) lethal doses into the atmosphere, with particle radioactive half-life a minimum of 50,000 years.

Nice, OP. I have posed exactly the same question about atmospheric nuclear testing, having read about the sample group used to derive the supposed connection. It's rather comforting that others have independently arrived at the same question.

I don't beieve much truth is ever spoken in the "real" world.

That being said I still like to read things that make me go Hmmmmmmmm....crazy doesn't cut it but sometimes you read things that "IF" true would sure explain a lot!

I'm a construction worker, nationally there have been training sessions of how to handle ASBESTOS, and the dangers involved.
Rarely, in uk does anyone die from asbestos related illness, all lung cancer is due to smoking, even in non smokers,i.e passive smoking.

Difference being, smoking deaths\illness are self inflicted..no compensation.
Asbestos related death and illness..large compensation payouts.

Spot the diference?

I hear you OP.

I don't like that they blame all cancer on smoking if you are a smoker. If you are a smoker and have colon cancer they blame it on your damn smoking.
If 50 people had cancer and half of them smoke then it is determined that the half that smoked got cancer as a result of smoking. What about the other half?
And why does all get blamed on smoking anyways? Why don't the think about other things people were doing? People who have cancer drank water, drank milk, breathed air, ate veggies, and the list could go on. Everyone who gets cancer have all done the same things but not all of them have smoked. I think it is time to look outside the tobacco box and see if a solid cause can be found.

Smoking does not cause cancer. Parasites that reproduce in the body in the presence of propyl alcohol is what causes cancer. Smoking does weaken the lungs and the entire body and immune system though.

As much as I would love to beleive that smoking does'nt cause cancer...I cant. The reason...I have a dead father who died of lung cancer at 56 years old. He smoked 2 - 3 packs of rollies a day...no filter. It was the most awful thing watching him die that way too verysadgaah. Ironically...I smoke myself...my fate will be my fathers im sure.

I am really sorry to hear that. It is horrible to watch anyone be sick with that.
I am watching my Grandpa so sick from lung cancer too. Only thing is he never smoked. His wife didn't smoke. His parents didn't smoke so he lived in a smoke free environment his entire life.

I'm beginning to think that if I should be run down in the street by a truck and died, it would be claimed that it's because of smoking.

From my personal experience, alchohol is far worse than smoking. And many smokers drink heavily. Is that considered in the statistics? Of course not. It has been decreed from on high that smoking is the culprit, so any deviation from that edict is blasphemy.

Meanwhile, my father, an alchoholic, smoked and died at age 62.

His father, who didn't drink, smoked and died at 93.
My great-aunt, who didn't drink, smoked and died at 87.
My aunt, who didn't drink or smoke, died at 87.
Her sister, who didn't drink or smoke, died at 87.
Her father, who didn't drink, smoked and died at 87.

Face it. Life is dangerous and you ain't gonna' get outta here alive.
