Indiana Governor Signs Bill Allowing Citizens To Use Deadly Force Against Police Officers Into Law
Pin this shit!!!

Republican Governor Mitch Daniels has signed Senate Enrolled Act 1 into law in Indiana. The new law allows citizens to use deadly force against police officers they think are illegally entering their homes. Earlier this month, Addicting Info reported that the bill had passed the Senate. Republicans say the bill is designed to keep police safe, but Democrats say the bill will lead to the wanton killing of police officers.

Indiana Democrats have no legs to stand on. When the going gets tough - they run away to Illinois like spoiled children who refuse to accept they can't have their way every time.

'Wanton killing' my ass. This law is a step in the right direction to remind our law enforcement officers that they are NOT above the law.

This is a good thing. The police are given way too much authority as it is. I live in Marengo, IN. We do not have a problem with the police but I know in areas like Indianapolis and Louisville...the police are out of control.

Yeah, but doesn't NDAA just trump this? If you justly shoot a cop, you can be unjustly thrown into prison without trial.

This law is basically a loophole for citizens to kill police officers and claim self-defense.

Wtf? How is there no claim of self defence? What if the Police are breaking the law?

the article wants to make it seem that way, it's only in terms of self defense where the police officer is obviously doing illegal stuff (breaking into your home without a warrant)

What a stupid statement. Just don't enter anyone's home or property without permission or warrant !!!

At what point did someone decide different so that it would have to be re-enacted into law AGAIN ???

There are already laws to protect you from "regular" people. If someone enters your home, you have the right to protect and defend your family and land. slaphim

This law IMO is a reaction to the NDAA and its most definitely a step in the right direction.

NDAA basically states law enforcement can arrest and detain US citizens with warrant or cause (as long as they are classified as terrorist ... domestic or not) and this law says that you can defend yourself from that crap.

Every single person who post on this website is or will be considered a domestic terrorist.

All states need to follow in Indiana's footsteps.

I hope some police officers read this:

If during your shifts you yourself uphold the laws that is great, however if you do nothing to stop other cops from abusing the laws then you are just as guilty for allowing it.

Since police can not manage their own actions in a truly law abiding way then if you enter without provable just cause then you too can be shot.

This law only keeps the 'honest' cops honest. And for any haters out there who dislike it then don't break the law! See, cops lie to close a case fast, and since as we all know the 'legal system' is all about money, the ones who have the least money go to jail far more often than those with it.

Bottom line: Do your damn job and if you are scared of being killed then don't break the law! Don't like it find another line of work and get out the way for others who will do your job better!

We had a law passed not too long ago that said we had to stand down if police entered our homes without warrants. We were not able to defend ourselves against police coming into our home at any time they wished for NO reason at all. Living in small towns, trust me when I say many rely on the good ole boy system and the abuses are rampant.

This law is a really, really GOOD THING!!

Self defense. Specifies that a person may use reasonable force against any other person in certain circumstances. Provides that a person is justified in using reasonable force against a public servant if the person reasonably believes the force is necessary to: (1) protect the person or a third person from unlawful force; (2) prevent or terminate the public servant's unlawful entry into the person's dwelling; or (3) prevent or terminate the public servant's criminal interference with property lawfully in the person's possession. Specifies that a person is not justified in using force against a public servant if: (1) the person is committing or is escaping after the commission of a crime; (2) the person provokes action by the public servant with intent to injure the public servant; (3) the person has entered into combat with the public servant or is the initial aggressor; or (4) the person reasonably believes the public servant is acting lawfully or is engaged in the lawful execution of the public servant's official duties. Provides that a person is not justified in using deadly force against a public servant whom the person knows or reasonably should know is a public servant unless: (1) the person reasonably believes that the public servant is acting unlawfully or is not engaged in the execution of the public servant's official duties; and (2) the force is reasonably necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to the person or a third person

Because the bill has nothing to do with whether the cops are *actually* breaking the law, or whether the person 'feels' that they are breaking the law.

I don't know if you've ever watched COPS or not, but a few episodes of that will give you the very clear picture that almost every single person who ever gets pulled over, questioned, or arrested by the cops *feels* and insists that it is unjust.

I rest my case with cops being liars - will sell anyone else out to save their own skin. This is what bad cops have brought us to. If your example were to be true, thats when it would get real ugly on both sides. And who are the ones who are supposed to uphold the law? Uh-huh.. do you damn job without abusing it with your effing 'do as your told or I will lie to punish you' attitude and maybe things would cool down.

You are just pissed because the citizens won one for a change. Get over it already. Wait - whats that saying you cops always tell those who were unfairly arrested?? "If you want justice go to church".

You clearly have not known someone who was arrested and humiliated and lost everything because of a cop lying. When you have 4 citizen witnesses saying the same thing and are told by state attorney the cops word is taken over the citizens - this is why video taping is now commonplace. So you damn cop lovers can not make shit up just to make a bust!

Until you have suffered from the abuse your opinion is an empty one.

It's about time, this law seems well worded. Public servants have no special powers, they must fallow the law.

Police have been abusing power forever, then claiming special privilege.

This law makes it clear, if a Public servant is abusing power, illegally using force to inflect bodily harm, or seize property. The Citizen has the Right, that the Citizen has always had.

To Blow their Fucking Head off.

Let's all go get some pepper spray, it does say reasonable force. Next time a public servant get's out of line, pepper spray them.
