Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13332295 If you dont plug your game into the internet then you do not need to play a multiplayer game, which is what the game passes are for in the first place. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13417752 Canada 03/29/2012 06:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.forbes.com] Quoting: -GooGooFlexy- On the upcoming Xbox and Playstation systems, there will likely be an extra charge to be able to play a used game. That's right...developers are getting upset that kids pay for their game, beat it or get tired of it in a few weeks, and sell it to GameStop. Gamestop, then, turns around and re-sells it for a profit to someone who hasn't had the opportunity to play it. Game developers are pissy because they see none of this profit. ... They want to be paid each time their game is sold...whether it's new or not. The real catch is that you can buy the game used at a dicounted price no problem. You just have to pay extra if you actually want full access to the game. It's the same as you going out to buy a 99 Ford Focus and only being allowed to drive it if you pay royalties to Ford. Why is this a problem? You aren't going to be able to get games at a reasonable discount for buying used. Even though you paid lessr the game, you'll be paying more just to play it, so you might as well just get a new one. Instead of whining about diminishing profits because of kids returning their games back to GameStop, perhaps they should just make a game that you want to keep. I have no problem playing games like Skyrim and Forza for month after month because they update with new content to keep you interested. Perhaps if developers don't want people returning their products, they should get with the program and do the same. I won't be buying any new gaming system that supports charging you extra for recycling a used game. I suggest you all do the same. all agreed. But I take it a bit further, myself. Until data privacy is much better, I won't be using a game system that requires me to connect to the internet for any reason. Between snoopy govs, companies, and hackers all wanting my data, NONE of em are getting it just so I can play games. |

Umerican User ID: 11749062 United States 03/29/2012 07:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I like used games, since I don't need to buy titles on day one, however: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1283316 The future is 100% online distribution like Steam. No DVD that can get scratched (or ripped and pirated), new games cost what they do now, then the price goes down over time as the game gets "old". (and really, if the game is still good who cares?) I either just troll through the back catalog and buy stuff at the $10-$20 or wait for the big sales where you can get say, ALL of the GTA series for $20 or whatever. Brilliant. You are 100% correct nearly everything data wise will exist in "the cloud", where everything you have can be anywhere you are. Honestly its kind of scary everyone will be soooo dependent on the system for entertainment, banking , travel plans, you name it. Welcome to the future. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 13217939 United States 03/29/2012 07:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Time to short-sell some GameStop stock...Used games is where they get all their revenue if this happens say byebye to gamestop.they only make 5 to 10 $ per new game sold, all their money is in used games.if this is true the game companies would be cutting their own throats over being greedy.i for one would'nt buy their shit anymore.i've stopped buying most games anyways, because it's rehashed bs.the same game with alil tweaking.madden 30 will be the same as madden 12. meanwhile they fuck up the good games like rainbow6...black arrow was 1 of the best.heck all they would have to do is re release blackarrow with a new map pack and weapons and i'd buy that over the rest of this bs.they are making a killing off of people selling them tweaked games.when they make a part 2 to something they are already working on 3 as they are making 2.they are so greedy that they released water downed shit alil at a time to keep people buying. |

ShabbyOrange User ID: 13480726 United Kingdom 03/29/2012 08:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My problem with online distribution is that you often only pay to have the license to play the game, and they can take away that. So long as you keep your data backed up, there's no problem, you can keep that game. Once you've lost it and they choose not to allow you to download it again, id see a dvd/cd or cartridge much more worth while. |

That was the shortest game in fucking history. Now they came out with an expansion pack to get more money out of you they should have included in the first release. Crysis 2 is actually the best deal I've had in a long time. It's interesting, fun, good plot, awesome weapons, good game play and it keeps on giving. It lasts a long time. Fear 3 gives you two types of game play to keep the game interesting. I see the COD series trying to rip people off and I'm done with them. Fuck them and their dirty tricks. And there is no way in hell they can demand payment for used games. Can you imagine wanting a piece of a game sold at a garage sale? Who the fuck do these people think they are? |

I was just talking to a buddy about that exact same thing today LOL wierd. here is a principle to act by, in life in general: Be the change you wish to see in the world. In other words, act the way you would hope everyone would act to stop bad things. Boycott products that violate your values, etc. Never feel helpless or useless. People will follow your example eventually. Help spread the word about what you are doing, and why. Meanwhile, keep enjoying life. Its not like they can take away akk the games that already exist today, and that already constitutes centuries of quality entertainment (I'm not counting the crappy games). No reason to bend over. Not on this issue, not on any issue. Every crowd is made up of nothing more than a bunch of 'just one man/woman' |

The problem the developers have is not making money off of sales of their used games...which makes no sense considering they already received money for selling that game. Makes PLENTY of sense.
