Re: The Upcoming War on Used Games
New games have been a rip off.

Take Call of Duty MW3. That was the shortest game in fucking history.

Now they came out with an expansion pack to get more money out of you they should have included in the first release.

Crysis 2 is actually the best deal I've had in a long time. It's interesting, fun, good plot, awesome weapons, good game play and it keeps on giving. It lasts a long time.

Fear 3 gives you two types of game play to keep the game interesting.

I see the COD series trying to rip people off and I'm done with them. Fuck them and their dirty tricks.

And there is no way in hell they can demand payment for used games. Can you imagine wanting a piece of a game sold at a garage sale?

Who the fuck do these people think they are?
 Quoting: FatalW1shes

I disagree with you on COD games. I mean there is tons of replay value. I see kids that spends hours on that thing and im talking 5-6. Online is probably one of the most played games. If you play any COD for the story then ur missing the point of the series. People play it for the online experience. Yes you'll find a few that will, play the game but the first attraction is online. You talk to anyone and they know COD.

That is why I game on pc's and use pirate sites.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13284416

YOU are the friggin problem, and why we're all screwed...console kiddies and hardcore PC fans like me.

HUGE Steam fan...any game I buy - I can put on multiple systems (upstairs, down and laptop)...can't play em all on lappy - but the option is there (400 Stream thread processing AMD 5XXX series beast of a lappy!)....

anyways.....This has been in the works for years. The fact that Sony and MS are doing this is no surprise...they're idiots for using optical media in the last generation anyways...hdd storage size is more than enough...they should have gone digital download like steam 7 years back.

Biggest offenders, as others have posted...EA (look what they did to all the sports games...no online play after a year - FORCING you into the next crap game)...EA (Origin for BF3....hated submitting...but HUGE BF fan...so I sucked it up even with all my tough talk...

Activision and COD has been bastardized and is the epitome of greed now...still haven't got the last 2 games because I'm waiting for Steam sale (I got MW2 for free with 5850 purchase *like I just got Dirt 3 for free for the 6770 I bought a couple weeks back)....but EA won't let Valve drop the price because they're greedy pricks.

MAss Effect 3 and it's recent news? They got greedy, screwed their fans (I don't play that one)...and now I hope their stock price takes a hit...

BUT....friggin Ubisoft is amongst the worst. Hawx2 came out...and you can't even play single player without an internet connection.....what????

Now, not saying Gamestop is innocent...they are as greedy as the publishers (and don't think for one second the actual programmers and coders get any of this money *hence the COD activision split a year or so back...or see the Codemasters story concerning Dirt/F1....original dudes made the best racing games...codemasters got greedy so the dudes left - said eff em and then made their own company)...but their new game never took off...because it's a catch 22 and of course you need a publisher with cash and power to make money (see COD example...which btw...was originally a PC only game before the bastardized it *starting with COD2)...

Gamestop will undoubtedly be the biggest loser in this war besides the consumer. My only advise is to get on board with the distributor you feel gives you the best deal...and for, it is without a doubt Valve/Steam...they include ALL publishers (those who have sense and will allow their games distributed on it)..they have SICK sales...AND they offer some free games too...

Please bear in mind (concerning Steam/Valve)...like my Battlefield BC2 game...the publisher (EA) sets the limit on how many machines you can legally install the game on before you need to buy another copy. To date, I haven't seen anything less than 6 installs/machines...that's pretty fair. I lost my orignal code for my Cd copy (5 disks) of Battlefield 2....EA told me to go screw myself...so I bought it on Steam for $20 (well worth it!)...I know EA made more off me then...but now I can know I can install it a few more times if need be (no need with 3 out now)..and EA can't tell me to go screw myself...

Video game doom...haven't posted in a while (sorry I'm AC, I'm a paranoid MF who's red listed with a bunk already waiting for me at FEMA camp I'm convinced!)....I post on OCN a lot (look it up...no shameless plug, but just so you know I know what the hell I'm talking about)...but I've been missing on their (I'm no AC there)...and I don't have the heart to tell em all you guys suck me in with the daily doomage. (PS...the Android blanket bans are BS....I REALLY hate having to read Below Top Secret at work because GLP is down...pisses me off to no end...I sit on my ass all day if there are no customers (usually isn't)...and it screws legite dudes like me...and as stated above...too paranoid to get an account...sorry guys....Masshole out!

If it goes to digital downloads only for ps3 and xbox in nextgen...then they become irrelevant consoles...all they will be is hosting platforms for online gaming with an online store...and any company can make a 500 hard drive to hold games and hold matchmaking for a username for online gaming for any developer...the only games that wont be hosted are ones published by microsoft and sony...yawn...

On the upcoming Xbox and Playstation systems, there will likely be an extra charge to be able to play a used game. That's right...developers are getting upset that kids pay for their game, beat it or get tired of it in a few weeks, and sell it to GameStop.
Gamestop, then, turns around and re-sells it for a profit to someone who hasn't had the opportunity to play it.
Game developers are pissy because they see none of this profit.

...

They want to be paid each time their game is sold...whether it's new or not. The real catch is that you can buy the game used at a dicounted price no problem. You just have to pay extra if you actually want full access to the game. It's the same as you going out to buy a 99 Ford Focus and only being allowed to drive it if you pay royalties to Ford.

I cannot believe that this actually makes sense to them. Humanity is getting beyond freaking stupider by the minute.

I have no problem playing games like Skyrim and Forza for month after month because they update with new content to keep you interested. I won't be buying any new gaming system that supports charging you extra for recycling a used game. I suggest you all do the same.

I don't even PLAY video games, as they are literally the world's BIGGEST waste of time.

However, this kind of utter BULLSHIT makes my blood boil.

I have absolutely ZERO doubt that the Lake of Fire (yes... it's coming) will be absolutely LOADED with greedy scumbags.

What happens when someone wants to sell something ELSE (besides a video game) used, that they no longer need, or are "tired of"? What happens when someone wants to upgrade a power tool, so they sell the used one to someone? Should the manufacturer of the used tool get ANOTHER profit off of the SAME merchandise when it sells again?

THIS IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. And anyone who continues to play video games, or have ANYTHING to do with them (giving more money to these TURDS) deserves to be put away into a fucking concentration camp.

FUCK THESE ASSHOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to tell you this but Steam games get pirated as well.
 Quoting: Koitenshin

It's not so much an issue of pirated material. The problem the developers have is not making money off of sales of their used games...which makes no sense considering they already received money for selling that game.

It's not the nerdy game developers (programmers and animators) that are the problem here.

It's the huge game publishing companies like EA that want more profits, without actually improving the games.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1124145

What AC is saying here is quite true. Always find it funny when people point the finger at developers when actually its the publishers that are the problem.

Developers normally get paid a set amount to make a game + bonuses if it sells well.. the person who makes the bulk of the money though are the publishers and its also them who make a massive loss due to used game sales, devs do not even get a whiff.

Who do you think makes the choice to put DLCs' onto the disc(s) on release and then decides to put a price on it, so that you can unlock it? Its certainly not the developers..

Please do not blame the devs as in all reality they should be getting paid more seeing as they make the actual game!!

Publishers are greedy pigs and always will be.. long live the indie movement.

I cannot believe it when I read something like "I see where the publishers are coming from" seriously...should Ford or Honda get a piece of the action every time one of their cars is sold used market? This is one thing and one thing only...GREED. Oh, and how about comic books while we are at it...should the artists be paid every time I buy a back issue at the comic shop...seriously, its insulting.I have been playing video games ever since the Telstar days of the early 70's and I am now beginning to feel as tho I will for sure PASS on the upcoming generation if this is their business model.

You console gamers are funny, and kind of dumb.

Your "next-gen" hardware is always outdated within 6 months.

And usually, developers for said consoles are finally able to squeeze out the power of said hardware a few years down the road when it's really aging.

Microsoft has stated they won't be releasing a NextGen console in 2012/2013 as they are still seeing good sales from the current generation system. There are however rumours of a scaled down XBox 360 Model that will be released in 2012/2013 without a optical drve which would mean this new console would be the first to force everyone who buys it to use downloadable games only.

I would expect that when Sony and MS do release their NextGen consoles in 2014 or later then they would also have no optical drive. Not saying its a good thing but we consumers really wont get a say besides not buying the consoles.

Regarding the booklets in disc games people are discussing, I do see a lot of people on the forums I frequent saying they want them and when EA started shipping all games without a proper manual / booklet, many people complained but EA wouldnt budge saying its part of their going green initiative which many are calliing BS and saying its just EA cutting costs.

I don't agree with them trying to stop the resale of 2nd hand games but I do agree with the removal of the optical drives.

All this will succeed in accomplishing is to seriously raise the level of active piracy. A good number of people already download the game "illegally" to try it out before buying because they have been burned too many times with the poor quality (or non-functional out of the box) games that devs are putting out today. Now, if this happens, more people will mod their consoles and just download what they want without a second thought.

So let the idiotic developers and publishers (EA anyone?) screw themselves in the ass with this. Give it to them... let them see how quickly their profits drop after the demand for games diminishes from their own act of stupidity. I for one will not be buying anymore console games if they pull such a stupid move and end up raising the price points of used games.

I can definitely see the earlier points that this is ultimately where we're headed with the almighty CLOUD...but I'll fight it. People want something in return when they buy a game. Not just an email purchase notificaion.
I want artwork, I want extras, and I want a freaking backup disk in case my xbox flips its shit.

Also, what about people who don't have xbox live or the internet? Are they not allowed to buy gmes then? Just makes no sense to me. I don't know how they're going to justify this.
