Nuclear Thorium Battery

Since you are on on the subject, start researching liquid fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR).

Imagine this, a safe, low pressure source of energy that can not be used to build nuclear warheads because it cannot produce weapons grade fissile material. How safe? so safe that even if the containment vessel broke up magically (there is hardly any pressure inside, thus it won't explode) the nuclear fuel could dump out and the nuclear reaction would slow and stop, not crank up and become a meltdown.

Thorium is abundant - astronomically abundant compared to plutonium and uranium. Burning plutonium or uranium is like burning platinum bars instead of cord wood to heat your house (if it were possible).

All of these new rare earth batteries and other technologies that use rare earths, most of the mines are loaded with thorium. Its such a 'problem' with excess thorium that many deposits of rare earth metals and minerals are not tapped because no one knows what to do with the so called waste material (thorium).

Why wasn't it pursued, why do we have high pressure solid fuel reactors that are difficult to control and have so much extra plumbing to keep them safe that its ridiculous to even consider using them over the much safer, far simpler liquid salt (thorium) type reactors?

1. You can't produce weapons grade fissile material out of a LFTR, sure you can get some weapons grade material, but it takes way to long (decades at nominal operating levels to say power a city) to raise up enough weapons grade material to build one bomb.

2. Money. Once again it comes to Large Corporations keeping a strangle hold on the population. Where as a solid core reactor to power 30% of a city costs billions of dollars to build. For the same amount of money you can power a city plus its surrounding area. The return is like 4 times that in energy per dollar. 120% of the electrical needs of your city from LFTR than the 30% you get from solid fuel reactors.

3. Politics. Consider the US Nuclear Policy. Right now it pretty much forbids North Korea, Iran and many other nations from pursuing peaceful applications of nuclear energy. The USA developed the nuclear industry and has exported it (Yep even to the old USSR). It purposefully degraded and pushed LFTR technology out of the then small nuclear science community who has gone on to continue 'hiding' LFTR technology. So much so that an armchair scientist is the 'expert' on LFTR. How much of an Expert. China went to him for more information, the US Government and scientific community pretty much shrugged.

The Thorium Battery you mentioned, it would be so cheap and easy to produce from the infrastructure that the LFTR (liquid thorium reactors) that every home could be 100% self sufficent inside 2 decades and all of the old large scale power plants, all of that high voltage electrical lines would be as useful as telegraph technology.

Today to enslave a people you just control the energy. Not only works here at home to keep your citizens in check, it also works abroad.
