Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1082682 The intention of this post is to lead people into an allegory of their beliefs that is suited to inspire, rather than defraud people. Now whether this is a myth or closer to the facts and truth is obscured by scallywags, sycophants, and liars our for the usual control freak dilemma. One can test for themselves that many of the statements in the bible work very very well on individuals. When groups involve supposition of faith without facts, the herd takes over without the benefit of discernment. Yes so one can lay in an armchair and say "bullshit," but why is this a problem in the reader rather than in the writer? You can go into many hotel rooms and find a bible. The task is to draw upon the best of it, to arrive upon your own fulfillment. Then you are able to share that feeling with others. It is hardly "tribal," nowadays but big business. Also your Scowfield reference Bible can be interpreted as a great source of misery, considering its emphasis upon an apocalypse, very convenient for bankers lending our money for wars and strangling the best of nations. William Wordsworth And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests: "Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world." "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein |
