Message Subject Korean Airlines flight 777 makes landing in Comox BC after "threat"

What I want to know is why would they scramble American fighter jets from Oregon as Standard Operating Procedure to deal with a threat in Canadian airspace? Surely Canadians have perfectly capable assets to deal with these sorts of incidents. Or is this a new wrinkle in that secret border- security-perimeter-agreement-thingy that our governments signed but which no-one is willing to discuss the contents thereof?

Because The US and Canada have this thing known as NORAD...the North American Aerospace Defense command (formerly known as the North American Air Defense Command).

NORAD - a joint U.S.-Canadian air force command responsible for detecting aircraft and space vehicles deemed a threat to the continental airspace.

Yes of course I know but the question is why were the F15's from Oregon scrambled instead of fighters from CFB Comox? Look at a map. I guess maybe it depends on where the call came in and where the plane was initially intercepted. Of course if it had been in the far north rather than so close to the border they might not have been so jumpy.
