Never read anything about that even being possible before..you are right..it has only normally been heard using special instruments. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14154818 Or fireworks carried up into the atmosphere by Chinese lanterns that happened to hit the perfect angle. Meanwhile, at ground level Swamp Gas amplified the audio distortion when they set them off. So nothing to see here really. Jus' movin' on up in the world inch by inch... |

"The explosion is believed to have been caused by the air burst of a large meteoroid or comet fragment at an altitude of 5–10 kilometres (3–6 mi) above the Earth's surface. Different studies have yielded varying estimates of the object's size, with general agreement that it was a few tens of metres across.[4]" [link to en.wikipedia.org] [link to www.youtube.com] Last Edited by Rain-Man on 04/23/2012 11:45 AM Thread: Most Dangerous Time for Strong Earthquakes in 2012, Super Full Moon, Alignment of Earth-Sun-Jupiter, Venus Transit, Solar Eclipse over USA & JP Thread: Strange Sounds,Strange Rumblings, Sonic Booms, The Hum, Groaning, Earthquake Connection, Electromagnetic Voices, Post Your Recordings Here EARTHQUAKE FORECAST [link to igipop.webs.com] |

Loud, recurring booms over the northern third of the state...what else do you want? And meteors are just silly...same spot, next day, nowhere else in between, same root cause? lol. Plus those trumpet noises that may or may not be happening around the same general area. |

The booms back and heard all over NorCal. I saw it was "only between" 5-10 km above the Earths atmosphere when it exploded but that doesn't account for actually "hearing it" Very low frequency (VLF) radio signals. Such radio waves, which oscillate at audio frequencies between a few kHz and 30 kHz, travel to the ground at the speed of light and human ears can't directly sense radio signals....... |

The booms back and heard all over NorCal. In Tooele County, residents reported that they felt that moment when the meteor shattered. Wiggins said it took about 5 minutes for the sonic boom, but said he's not surprised people felt it. "Most meteors, you don't hear them, but this one was close enough and big enough that, yeah, you definitely heard the thing. It was exciting," he said. In fact, seismology monitors at the University of Utah picked up the rumble from the air. |

The booms back and heard all over NorCal. "Elizabeth Silber at Western University has searched for infrasound signals from the explosion," says Cooke. "Infrasound is very low frequency sound which can travel great distances. There were strong signals at 2 stations, enabling a triangulation of the energy source at 37.6N, 120.5W. This is marked by a yellow flag in the map below." "The energy is estimated at a whopping 3.8 kilotons of TNT (about one fourth the energy of the 'Little Boy' bomb dropped on Hiroshima), so this was a big event," he continues. "I am not saying there was a 3.8 kiloton explosion on the ground in California. I am saying that the meteor possessed this amount of energy before it broke apart in the atmosphere. [The map] shows the location of the atmospheric breakup, not impact with the ground." "The fact that sonic booms were heard indicates that this meteor penetrated very low in atmosphere, which implies a speed less than 15 km/s (33,500 mph). Assuming this value for the speed, I get a mass for the meteor of around 70 metric tons. Hazarding a further guess at the density of 3 grams per cubic centimeter (solid rock), I calculate a size of about 3-4 meters, or about the size of a minivan." "This meteor was probably not a Lyrid; without a trajectory, I cannot rule out a Lyrid origin, but I think it likely that it was a background or sporadic meteor." from nasa space weather...person who posted this didn't put a link and i can't find it in the mess that is conspiracy sites reporting on yesterday's meteor. |

The booms back and heard all over NorCal. I did not hear the sounds this weekend but I have heard them about a month ago and wondered what the heck it was. It was in the middle of the night and truly an expansive sound vibration which did not seem localized. Yesterday I was in the Napa valley and I saw some very fast large aircraft fly directly upward, with a contrail like a missile. I've never seen anything like it and wonder if it was related. |

Are you new? no i am not new, dickweed, i've seen all the fucking videos and read every single thread and then some. what i mentioned are the only two places i have seen mention of dual booms. so if you're going to pop off about someone asking for more evidence and eye witness on that, YOU are the noob. i find it highly relevant to make the reports of multiple booms as clear as possible, as it is an important element IF it is true. |
