Re: Hell Hath No Fury Like A Private Prison. Collusion of State and Corporations to Put You in Prison?

I write to prisoners as a ministry that God put on my heart. They tell me a lot, and I have also visited prisoners in the big prisons several times.
It is not a place anyone ever wants to be. It is inhumane and does nothing to turn them into better people, but rather, they come out with a twisted sense of reality and very unable to deal with normal people or society. Prison life turns even the tiniest things into something huge for them, because they have so very little. Even the smallest slight can get you stabbed or badly beaten, and the racism is very much a necessity of survival. You don't even dare befriend someone of the opposite race or take their side in any way, or you are considered a traitor. If a big fight breaks out, and you choose not to fight with your "race" against the others, then you will pay for it later from your side, big time. If you have any good thing in you, you better hide it well or get rid of it in there, or you may not make it. Imagine coming out on the streets with that kind of animalistic programming. Not to mention the ones who get raped or pawned out for use by whomever. And it still amazes me how they can get their drugs, amazing, and phones, etc. There's always someone willing to earn that black market $ in there.

That is awesome that you do that and this subject matter is one that very much interests me. Many individuals go to prison and learn to become smarter and more effective criminals. They sit around all day with nothing to talk about except what they know - the games they play on the street. They don't learn life skills, they don't learn anger management, or how to respect one another. Prison is very much a jungle where one comes out worse off than before one went in. I am not surprised to learn of the high recidivism rates for various offenders. For many, prison life feels more 'normal' than outside life where they lack the interpersonal skills and morals to survive among the populace. Much easier to act like an animal in the jungle I guess.

And about your last point you made regarding contraband. Isn't that an amazing testament to how foolish our approach to the 'war on drugs' is? We cannot even prevent contraband from infiltrating our most secure institutions in our country, yet we think we can stop it from entering our wide open borders and prevent people from accessing it in their communities? What a horrible joke!

I really like that you communicate with prisoners and recognize that they are still human beings inside no matter how unrecognizable on the exterior. Many would rather throw away the key and forget that they even exist. Harder to sympathize with some depending on their crimes but there are many people in prison who do not belong to be there and many who would stand to greatly benefit from alternative means of treatment rather than being locked down 23 hours a day and provided with no services to better themselves as human beings.

That's downright scary. I see the system and how it works from the juvenile detention breaking them in. They literally give the kids no counseling and support, turn them back out onto the streets on probation with rules that are a complete change from their behaviors before they got arrested. They often fail and end up in and out of juvie. But, they make juvie fun, get to go to school, hang out with other kids, movies on Saturday night, rec during the day outdoors. Jail is SO not like that, and they will get a rude awakening once they have them comfortable with the cycle of going in and out of juvie. When they turn 18, they will find the system much less kind, less forgiving, and less supportive than it already barely is. And, they do not give the families any information about what to do when your child is arrested, what will happen, how to find a lawyer, any of that. They will just tell them to be in court on this day and that and make all of the decisions. They will provide a public defender (my friend calls it the public pretender) who basically is there to speak on behalf of the prosecuting DA's office, they work for the DA. They are there to ensure that the DA gets their bite and their money's worth out of the situation, every time. Then they send the parents bills for all of it and it is just a business. If your child has any type of developmental or mental disabilities, they will treat them pretty much the same as anyone else, which can end up bad.

wow..what kind of juvenile hall was that? The ones I was living in had murderers, rapists, people stabbing each other, gaurd sanctioned beat downs, code blues where ten or more people attacked you, roach infested. Eventually a coupleof kids died and they razed that hellhole to the ground

I once visited a juvenile detention center and also took notice that it very much resembled an adult prison.

There was a story just out how the music industry was hi-jacked by rap music and the cabal promoters who performed the hi-jack schemed a little scheme, to keep prisons filled with gangsta rap zombies.

Than, in a gold thread, I posted they have a law where if you accumulate food, metals or anything, they can arrest you for hoarding. That post got deleted from the thread.

Yes, hoarding is part of the agenda to put people in prisons, along with other petty offenses.

Prison is all about the money and nothing about rehabilitation. They want repeat offenders to keep the scheme moving right along as they fill their pockets with cash on the barrel head.

Rehabilatation is a huge secondary industry. Think of all the drug and alcohol counseling and numerous other mental health centers that have been deployed in the past several decades. There is an alphabet label for every kind of so called mental
disorder that plagues our society today. Think of all the billions of dollars in drugs dispensed for these disorders. Rehabilatation and the capitol generated from it goes hand in hand with incarceration.

Very few of those family service/ drug rehab centers accomplish anything. Plus they are all after the fact. By the time one comes out from these prisons and jails they are so mind raped very few seem to recover and if they do its despite of these family services and rehabs. And i agree its definitey more parasitic for capitol after the prison experience. Not to mention humiliating because these rehabs teach that EVERYTHING thats ever happened to you is YOUR fault.

I think a lot of those services are good in theory, but they are very poorly executed and plagued by the same rigidity and close-minded thinking that infiltrates most of our industries in our society today. That 'by the book' thinking that has absolutely no regard for outside the box thinking or approaches. Our science and medical fields are very much stuck in this mentality as well. If these people don't love or respect themselves, how are they going to be able to learn to respect their bodies? Drug counseling trying to treat the symptoms but not treat the cause.

Can you please tell me more about that link you posted earlier? I am planning on visiting the site but would like to hear a first-hand account about it if you don't mind. How does the process work? Thanks!

While in many cases it may be true that the benifits of therapy is nil, many times it is also beneficial.
Unfortunately there is good and bad in everything.
I myself was given a choice, 1 yr intensive out patient therapy or 6 yrs prison. Of course I chose counseling. I was very rebeliuous and in total denial at first. I felt everyone and everything was to blame. As the months moved on I began to see things different. I am the one who makes my own choices and I am the only one that can change myself. I had a wonderful counseler that knew how to see through people and reach into them. It was defintely a good experience for me and I have learned to accept responsibility for myself and my actions.
I realise this is not the outcome for everyone and that there are a lot of counselers that don't really care or just plain are not good at it.

That is why Statism is a dangerous mental illness. It defers the logic of actions to "higher ups" (ie: the State) and the individuals never acknowledge the evil that they perpetrate in the name of "doing good".

How many evils have been executed with the excuse of "I'm just doing my job."?

The problem with Statism is that individuals abrogate their good sense for the laws of the State, when in fact those laws were merely supposed to be a guide, and not an absolute.

So, you got up this morning and thought: "The world is going to hell and a handbasket but the police state couldn't possibly get worse."

How wrong you were you little positive ninny!:

The nation’s largest private prison company is offering cash-strapped state governments to buy up their penitentiaries and manage convicted criminals at a cost-savings. But there’s a catch…the states must guarantee that are there are enough prisoners to ensure that the venture is profitable to the company.

Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) has reached out to 48 states as part of a $250 million plan to own existing prisons and manage their operations. But in return CCA wants a 20-year contract and assurances that the state will keep the prisons at least 90% full.

Yeah I guess I was definitely generalizing there. I do not believe that my depiction applies entirely across the board in the industry, but I do feel that it rings true for a good portion of the services being rendered out there. Often times the people implementing those services are approaching people with very individualized needs and issues with a more standardized and formalized approach that really does not attack the root issues of the matter. Almost a one size fits all approach. I mean I can just sit here in my head and thing of all sorts of ways that may be more effective at getting through to some individuals than relying solely on conventional techniques.

That is an terrific story of personal triumph that you have to shared there. : ) Don't you feel like a stronger willed individual now in your life from having endured through that process which must have been very difficult at the time? While I did not have an issue with drugs, the way you described your changes in your life in relation to that issue is eerily similar to my own account of how I repaired my persistently negative outlook of my life. Mentally I was living in my own little self-imposed prison. Trying to correct the problem, I was fixated on all the external factors that I thought were contributing to my unhappiness. When I finally gained a sense of clarity and was able to shift my consciousness and my way of thinking - I realized that the changes had to originate from within and not from the external factors or circumstances that I was perceiving on the surface level. I think the reason that people like you and I were able to change is that some part of you has to want to help yourself get better. Unfortunately I think many of these prisoners are so consumed with their own despair - that many of them cannot find that desire to do so through exposure to traditional treatment methods.

Yes

it means many things can happen to the "average" joe target.

Lets see....one scenario....

poor joe goes to renew his drivers license. Joe is told some bull shit reason why he can't have it renewed that day...

when in fact there is something "bogus" put into the system...

Miss mary jane has not real clue what it all means but told to tell joe

he has to come back with documentation of some sort...

well,

Joe gets into his car mad and

that day...or a day or two

he gets stopped by a police ....

for driving without a license ....

bingo

joe is in jail

Uh no. This is happening under the obama. I don't think privitazation was ever a "partisan issue" anyway.

Both parties have always had a vested interest in keeping the police state going.

Perhaps you could show me how I'm wrong. Or prove that government does any better or is less concerned about having customers i.e. prisoners for their prison state.

The entire government run "justice system" depends on locking people up.

You dumbfucks have been voting for this privatization bullshit by voting republikan.

You now act surprised?

 Quoting: s. d. butler

Yeah, the more people that continue to believe that the problems in our society are predominantly 'partisan issues' - the worse off we will be. That type of thinking gives them the idea that we can simply just change the people we vote for and correct all of the problems that are deeply ingrained in our country. The heart of the matter is that government is in bed with big business. The politicians know that they can pander to special interest groups for economic gain. How many high ranking corporate executives were politicians at one point or vice versa? Pretty easy to vote for a few key bills as a politician and then get magically appointed to the 'Board Of Directors' for a major corporation as soon as you retire from your political service. These people aren't operating on moral grounds, they are seeking incentives for personal gain.

Yes

it means many things can happen to the "average" joe target.

Well, now joe is not in prison yet. He is just in jail and has the right to be let out soon ; after all this is NOT a reason to hold someone a long time, Right?

As target joe sets in the holding pin at the jail he is approached by Paid Plant Jack who proceeds to fight with target joe...
joe has no clue what is really happening and feels he needs to tell jack to leave him alone and a fight breaks out....

well, poor target joe is now in more trouble than before...spends the night and

the judge the next day now has a reason to keep joe in longer...

THis is how the game is played in many cases....

target joe is now wearing orange and a prison slave...

 Quoting: dragunov_1977

Thanks!
 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

 Quoting: GreyMatter

 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

Yeah,

I feel stronger healthier and happier. I wish it could be the same for a lot of others. From what I have seen a lot of people lose faith and hope in themselves and society in general. I think a lot of us are victims of circumstance and then again a lot of us are victims of our own circumstances.

Anyways thanks for sharing and for a little support.

Back to the original subject I have to agree with AC 15467801 on the privatized prison issue. I believe way too many people are being locked up for issues that can be dealt with in a better way. Unfortunately that is not the view of profiteers. There is no doubt in my mind that we will continue to see a rise in prison populations through the coming years ahead of us. In my part of the country, a small SW town the county jail is at capacity 24/7. It is a brand new expanded capacity jail. They are trying to build another one across the road. Gotta keep them full. Money money money money.

I have no problem with a private company running a state prison. The majority of those people get what they deserve or they would not be in prison to begin with.
What I do have a problem with is a private company running a county jail with a population floor built into their contract.
Can a person who was sentenced enter into a legal contract with a private company since they have no rights were stripped away?

On average it costs approx $20-26K a year to incarcerate an individual. Look at all these offenders who are serving long sentences for drug related offenses. Remember the 5 years for 5 grams of crack laws from the 80's? Can anyone tell me that it's in society's best interest to spend $100K of taxpayers money to lock somebody up for 5 years for drug possession? A somebody who will be worse off and less able to cope with the rigors of life when he/she gets out and thus likely to re-offend? The only individuals who should be incarcerated and thus incapacitated for long periods of time (if not indefinitely) should be those who commit very violent offenses (murderers, sex offenders, habitual violent offenders).

If the public really had any conception of how much money is spent and wasted in the prison industry, and how ineffective many of our laws are at actually deterring crime, they might actually wake up to what's going on. Billions of dollars spent treating the symptoms of larger societal issues & problems and absolutely no attempt to treat the causes.
