How do you square a loving, compassionate God with the doctrine of eternal hellfire?

If none come to the Father except those that are called, how is it acceptable to punish those that are not called?

There are 16 world religions with over 1 million followers. I suppose 17 if you include atheism/agnosticism. None have a scrap of physical evidence to backup their claims - when you have a 1 in 17 chance of guessing correctly, how is 14 billion years in a frying pan just punishment for guessing wrong?

A quick google search shows hundreds of factual contradictions in the bible. If it is the word of God, how come God made some factual errors in his book?
