Diamond Pet Foods Expands Voluntary Recall of Dry Pet Food Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination of Dogs and Humans
The following is what originally Diamond Foods Stated: [link to diamondpetrecall.com]

9:04 AM 5/6/2012

IMAGE ( [link to i45.tinypic.com] )

"Diamond Pet Foods has voluntarily recalled several brands produced in its Gaston, South Carolina, plant as a precautionary measure to protect the health and safety of customers and their pets. Please note: we have CORRECTED the production codes below. Please refer to the production code number on your bag to determine whether your product is affected by this recall. Please feel free to contact us at 866-918-8756 with any questions. Diamond Pet Foods apologizes for any potential issues this may have caused customers and their pets. We will update this website continually so check back often for new information."

Brands Affected By Recall
•Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
•Country Value
•Diamond
•Diamond Naturals
•Premium Edge
•Professional
•4Health
•Taste of the Wild

Then after confronting them on the phone I learned there was more to the story. So they briefly updated their statement on the webpage and you will see that 3 Brands were added briefly. Now they have reverted back to the old page and are hiding, removing, and changing information so that you can't find it. [link to diamondpetrecall.com]

wtf
"Diamond Pet Foods has voluntarily recalled some brands of dry pet food that it manufactured in Gaston, S.C., between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 due to potential Salmonella contamination. The brands that were recalled on May 4 have not tested positive for Salmonella. The company is recalling multiple brands, however, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of customers and their pets. Consumers should check this website for the production codes and best-before dates on the bags of recalled food, and discontinue feeding it. To learn whether or not the brand of pet food you use is included in the recall, please select it from the list below. Please note: we have issued CORRECTED production codes for all the brands below except for Apex. Each brand's page will have the CORRECTED production codes."

Follow this [link to www.diamondpet.com] link would take you to the main page of Diamond and in the lower left corner you would see a button to click on for recall information which took you to [link to www.diamondpet.com] :

The following was listed at [link to www.diamondpet.com] and was how people found the "special deceiving" website to go to for updated and more information. But now however when you go to the page it is blank/gone unless you view the source page which states.

"Diamond Pet Foods apologizes for any issues this may cause consumers and their pets. Pet owners who are unsure if the product they purchased is included in the recall, or who would like replacement product or a refund, may contact Diamond Pet Foods via a toll free call at 1-866-918-8756, Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. EST Consumers may also go to a special website, [link to www.diamondpetrecall.com] , for more information. The company is working with distributors and retailers to ensure all affected product is removed from shelves. Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. Individuals handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. People who believe they may have been exposed to Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. According to the Centers for Disease Control, people who are more likely to be affected by Salmonella include infants, children younger than 5 years old, organ transplant patients, people with HIV/AIDS and people receiving treatment for cancer. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have received a limited number of reports of salmonellosis, the illness caused by Salmonella. We are working with the CDC, but due to patient confidentiality, we cannot comment further. For more information, please visit [link to diamondpetrecall.com] "

[link to www.king5.com]

"The CDC reports that 14 people in 9 states have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Infantis.

"People who became ill, the thing that was common among them was that they had fed their pets Diamond Pet Foods," CDC spokeswoman Lola Russell said.

And "multiple brands of dry pet food" produced by Diamond at their South Carolina facility have been linked to some of the human Salmonella infections."

Re: Diamond Pet Foods Expands Voluntary Recall of Dry Pet Food Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination of Dogs and Humans
Looks like we have another brand Natural Balance. The first link below has a message from Joey Herrick, President of Natural Balance Pet Foods.

[link to www.naturalbalanceinc.com]

If what Joey Herrick, President of Natural Balance Pet Foods is saying in that video is correct then how could Diamond Pet Foods update there website today on 5/6/2012 as explained above and not add Natural Balance Pet Foods to the recall list when Diamond talked with the President of Natural Balance Pet Foods on 5/4/2012 and asked him to do a recall and he called in his employees and had a list as of 5/4/2012 and had 18 employees come in on 5/5/2012 to answer questions for customers and all of his employees today 5/6/2012 then how when we know Diamond at least knew on 5/4/2012 did they not update the information. Someones trying to hide something????????

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 5, 2012

Diamond Pet Foods today announced that it is expanding a voluntary recall to include batches of nine brands of dry pet food formulas manufactured between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 due to potential Salmonella contamination.

In April 2012, Diamond Pet Foods initiated three voluntary recalls of Diamond manufactured dry dog food. Although none of the additional products being recalled have tested positive for Salmonella, the company is pulling them from store shelves as a precaution. Diamond Pet Foods is coordinating efforts with federal and state health and regulatory agencies and decided to independently expand the recall to ensure the safety and well-being of customers and their pets.

The company stated: “We have taken corrective actions at our Gaston, S.C., facility and voluntarily expanded the recall out of concern for our customers and their pets.”

Brands included in the recall include:
•Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
•Country Value
•Diamond
•Diamond Naturals
•Premium Edge
•Professional
•4Health
•Taste of the Wild

The Kirkland Signature products included in the recall include: ..."

So then if those right there add up to nine how can Natural Balance be missing when Diamond knew on 5/4/2012 when telling Joey Herrick and issued a new press release on 5/5/2012 when Joey Herrick made the video for Natural Balance and we know there were 3 more added today 5/6/2012 then moments later removed. There were at least 2 new ones Apex and Canidae that I knew of and Kirkland at least not hidden???? So there should be 12 if my math is correct? And Diamond states they have:

"151 Checks
141 Ingredient Tests.
10 Final Product Checks.
Zero Compromises.

Here's what goes into every Diamond product:
•Each of our products undergoes a rigorous quality control process prior to shipment, including 141 ingredient tests and 10 final product quality and safety checks.
•Diamond uses only the highest-quality ingredients.
•Every Diamond Pet Foods product is Precision Formulated™ for content, quality, consistency and uniformity.
•Diamond is audited regularly by a highly respected independent laboratory for food safety, quality and palatability.
•We only sell products that we would be proud to feed to our own pets.

Look for our 151 Quality Checks stamp on every Diamond product. It marks our commitment to quality."

bill chicken and rice for your dog, or turkey and rice - you can buy boneless breasts and shred them after boiling them. Then mix with rice. Intersperse with some common sense table scraps.

Call of the Wild (in the recall) is good quality. I saw huge changes in the dog's coat and health after switching to it. Most, but not all packaged food, is crap. This stuff is good. I think Diamond also makes natural cat food.

Luckily I am not In the recall area and my nearly empty bag is safe.

My dog loves that and I think I will with a couple of veggies added. I think I read somewhere peas are good for them. Stay away from onions though. Also, with the hormones they inject into the animals can't be good for them either. Disgusting though it has come to this.

Your Welcome. Someone else on here had posted earlier not the same details though. I am sick and tired of companies acting like they can get by with anything. Guess it comes from the top down. :( Anyway, Taste of The Wild is what I decided on and had just bought my second bag last night when I found this out. There are to many people out there who aren't even aware of it. Only a couple of youtube videos about it. I guess it is the same company who had a mold problem. I researched and researched before deciding on TOTW then chose it because of the good reviews. But its like the pink slime in our beef they dont tell us because they think its good for us. Let me be the judge of that. I guess you really can't go wrong with rice and chicken although like I said the hormones. What a truely sick world we live in. How could this get by 151 checks and balances? Please, these companies could care less in my opinion.

Those of you who feed your pets raw food, please don't just do chicken breast and rice. That's seriously lacking in nutrition.

Make sure to add some internal organs and some ground chicken/turkey for the calcium. (They usually grind the small bones up with the poultry.)

Ya, I totally agree with you.

I do the the chicken and rice meals when I roast a bird. Too costly and too time consuming to feed natural chicken on a regular basis. I love the dog, but he will do fine on this kibble and leftovers :-)

Taste of the Wild Pet Food

We know this is all a little confusing and we are working as best we can to communicate the most up-to-date information to all of our fans. Many have asked whether cat food is included in the recall. Unfortunately, yes, certain batches of dry cat food are included in the recall.

We have an information line set up and our team can walk you through what you should do if the product you have is part of the recall. Give us a call anytime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST at 866-918-8756.

Call of the wild is really good stuff. My dog loved it. Shined his coat right up. However, 2 weeks ago, I opted for Diamond. Less expensive etc...

Willie will eat anything under the sun. Great Dane/Lab mix. But he was not about to eat that Diamond food. He would grab a kibble here and there but would not have a meal.

After 2 days I noticed he was throwing up bile. That night I recieved the email from Amazon (where I get my dogfood) that both Call of the wild and Diamond were recalled.

Don't you know, the production code on my Diamond bag is a recalled one. So I went to the store on bought his back up. He's fine now.

He was smart enough to know something was wrong with it.

It looks like there's a list on that website the OP posted, if you click the brands it'll go into more detail, WOW that's an awful lot of food. It's amazing how many brands are tied together, funny, some of that stuff is so much more expensive and look..they still contain the same CRAP in the end. Ugh.

Re: Diamond Pet Foods Expands Voluntary Recall of Dry Pet Food Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination of Dogs and Humans
I don't get it...don't these animals (dogs and cats) consume bacteria ridden food that would make a human ill with no problem? My cats eat raw chicken all the time but I am sure if I tried that stunt I'd pay dearly with a case of food poisoning. I have had salmonella poisoning before when I worked at a chicken plant long ago and that is some unpleasant shit. However, dogs and cats eat this with no problem...right? Just been my experience, that a dog will even eat shit and seem no worse for the wear. Are people eating this pet food and is that the true reason for the recall? Seems pointless to recall pet food over pets designed to process these kinds of bacteria.

Most probably could and do digest it with no issues, but if you're feeding it to an elderly, sick, or young pup there may be a possibility that they do get ill. Also, I think it's because they're worried the people that feed their dogs the food, touch the bowl, etc. and not wash their hands would also possibly get sick.

One of the bags is just before the first recall expiration date. But I checked both the date and the bar code and it's not part of the recall.
