"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

I've noticed a few posts lately that wonder where GLPers stand politically, and I thought it might be time for a new poll. Quoting: ReVbo™ For the record, libertarian here. In case you need a little help, here's a quiz... [link to www.theadvocates.org] Libertarian all the way. All about social freedom and economic conservatism. |

ReVbo™ (OP) User ID: 15670887 Norway 05/08/2012 04:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So far, the results are not surprising. I knew we had a large number of libertarians here, or I probably would have moved on years ago. Kinda surprising no anarchists, though. Too cool to vote for anything? Out plotting blowing up Chicago? Suspicious of my motives? I can understand that. I know we have some of you, though. Well I wouldn't call myself "extreme" either, but pairing the two together suggests that all other political philosophies acknolwedge the two most dominant as some fundamental, objective points in the political plane we have to use as a comparison to where we are. Quantitative difference. Mine is entirely different and I see their parties as single-dimensional and simple-minded. They entirely bore me and so do their constant squabbles. I don't need to refer to them at all to define my political philosophy. QUALITATIVE difference. By the way, I like libertarians a bit better... individual liberty is a big part of what I believe, and needs more attention... I just think that it's more complicated than even that, too. Thanks for acknowledging my stance though :) |

I feel all current politicians are extremely to the right of me socially. I think anyone one should be able to do what ever they want to their own body, and all it encompasses. My rights end where your's begin. Anything else is prison! Economically, money is what somebody says it is; it is just a random number. It is a way for somebody to maintain control over you, no matter your wealth. Government should not censor speech, press, media, or internet. agree Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft. agree There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults. agree Repeal laws prohibiting adult possession and use of drugs. agree There should be no National ID card. agree End "corporate welfare."
