Richard Mourdock has defeated longtime Sen. Richard G. Lugar of Indiana in the Republican primary, according to an Associated Press projection, ending the career of one of the Senate’s most pragmatic politicians and casting a cloud over GOP efforts to win control of the chamber.

Mourdock, state treasurer in Indiana, campaigned as a conservative alternative to Lugar. He became a darling of the tea party movement after he began a legal challenge to the terms of the Obama administration’s bailout of Chrysler.

Mourdock was endorsed by Sarah Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann, and Lugar had the backing of the party establishment, including Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

I don't, but the practical reality is that with Lugar's loss, Murdock is a weak candidate in Indiana and what was a sure Republican hold has now turned into a Democratic-leaning race.

The same thing happened in Delaware when Mike Castle was defeated by Christine O'Donnell, who went on to be drubbed in the general. The Republicans could have had an easy victory in Delaware, but they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in that case.

Also, don't forget the weak Tea Party candidate who ran against Harry Reid...if a more pragmatic Republican ran in that race, Reid (who was weak) would have been defeated.

The pragmatic practical result of these races is that the Tea Party candidates are causing the Democrats to have easy victories...thus leading to an agenda being pushed forward that they are decidedly against.

My point still stands...in at least 3 Senatorial races, the Tea Party candidate has allowed a sure Republican win/hold to lose to a Democratic candidate, thus promoting an agenda the Tea Party is against.

Also -- importantly -- Harry Reid was one of those.

No matter what the Mainstream Media says, the votes keep going to Tea Party conservatives.

He won because he was able to show Lugar hanging out with Obama. Anyone associated with Obama or Pelosi ends up losing. But you won't see that fact touted in the papers or on the news.

By my count that is 2. Murdoch will be fine. The TEA people frackin ruled in 2010. We didn't go anywhere. We just don't feel the need to run our mouths on every topic the media chooses. More centrist finger in the wind politicians will be removed in November.
