That's not the point. Why aren't these cars available in the US? Our high fuel prices are due to tax. |

That's not the point. Why aren't these cars available in the US? Our high fuel prices are due to tax. Because the way the system works in the US they have to produce cars with a lower mpg. If someone or group were to take out a suit against the government appealing that lower mpg vehicles damage the environment, they would just change the system to much the same as ours so that it does equal out. |

Our EPA,, went way beyond common sense and is the reason why our cars get 1/2 of what they could get.. After all if we used 1/2 the fuel where would the TAXes come from to fix the roads????????? Its all a big game to dig deeper in our pockets.. Sodbust |

Here is a great article debunking this video. I one starred this thread since it is not true and my debunking article is from May 1. [link to pesn.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13054977 United States 05/09/2012 09:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Another problem is that if fuel efficiency suddenly got a lot better, there's a lot less taxes since tax is based on per gallon. Also, oil businesses will lose significant $$$ if we stay with current fuel price. If we get those kind of cars like others, expect fuel price to sky rocket with more taxes... |
Buck Zander User ID: 15406845 Canada 05/09/2012 09:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | None of you watched the video did you? Nope, don't think they did. The 70+mpg TDIs are 10% more pollutant per gallon, but half as pollutant per mile, when compared to their gasoline counterparts. Roads are (re)built via gasoline taxes, so going all super high fuel efficiency will leave most states broke and unable to maintain the road infrastructure. Or so their myth goes. There must be a law that people can't lie. |

Foreign vehicles must meet US standards before they are allowed to be imported although you may import vehicles pre 1967 without concerning yourself with safety or emission issues. Canada and the United States have adopted the same emission standards therefore most Canadian vehicles can be imported into the United States.
