Cars running at 70 mpg BANNED in the US by Fed Gvmt
Holy crap, we have normal cars -- ford, VW, etc -- being built in the US that run 70mpg, but it's illegal to be used in the US; they send it to South America and stuff.. The same model in the US is only 40mpg... Watch this, your mind will be blown by the end of the video:

That's not the point. Why aren't these cars available in the US?

Our high fuel prices are due to tax.

Because the way the system works in the US they have to produce cars with a lower mpg. If someone or group were to take out a suit against the government appealing that lower mpg vehicles damage the environment, they would just change the system to much the same as ours so that it does equal out.

Folks,,, Simple,,, all the other parts of the world have found a happy balance between clean air and good mpg..

Our EPA,, went way beyond common sense and is the reason why our cars get 1/2 of what they could get.. After all if we used 1/2 the fuel where would the TAXes come from to fix the roads?????????

Its all a big game to dig deeper in our pockets..

It's true. Emission rules in USA esp California are more strict than other countries that tend to ruin fuel efficiency.

The US gallon is smaller than the Royal UK gallon. Here is a great article debunking this video. I one starred this thread since it is not true and my debunking article is from May 1.

safety laws
continue adding weight as crash protection, crumple zones, side bars, etc and the cars get heavier

many countries do not hold our safety standards
and it makes us

"One of the list's surprises: the U.S., which ranks eighth most dangerous"

my 1972 dodge dart gets 30 mpg, weighs 3800#, and is easily repairable with even the most basic mechanic skills

Another problem is that if fuel efficiency suddenly got a lot better, there's a lot less taxes since tax is based on per gallon. Also, oil businesses will lose significant $$$ if we stay with current fuel price. If we get those kind of cars like others, expect fuel price to sky rocket with more taxes...

Nope, don't think they did. The 70+mpg TDIs are 10% more pollutant per gallon, but half as pollutant per mile, when compared to their gasoline counterparts. Roads are (re)built via gasoline taxes, so going all super high fuel efficiency will leave most states broke and unable to maintain the road infrastructure. Or so their myth goes.
There must be a law that people can't lie.

The man in the video had certain facts correct however, the importation issue concerning emissions is more complex than stated.

Foreign vehicles must meet US standards before they are allowed to be imported although you may import vehicles pre 1967 without concerning yourself with safety or emission issues.

Canada and the United States have adopted the same emission standards therefore most Canadian vehicles can be imported into the United States.
