There's enough resources for everyone if we learn to share. Sports are stupid anyway so why shouldn't everyone get a medal? Grades don't really mean shit so why have them at all? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2917913 Gee, maybe we should have 30-40 CEOs per company, or, how about a couple dozen POTUS's...wouldn't want to hurt any of the other candiates wittle FEELINGS! |

All of the students have achieved the same remarkable grade. What I'm more curious about is the grading practices here. Sure, there could be some odd convergence of super-teachers here, but I'm thinking it's more likely that the teachers are grading a bit easier to make sure their performance stays high for more money for their school. That caused someone I know to become salutatorian through one percentage point difference on an 8th grade test. These bureaucrats are lazy! slick - nli User ID: 536086 United States 05/10/2012 10:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | valedictorian is the honor placed upon the graduating senior with the highest GPA. how do you distinguish one from another when they have identical GPAs? i don't believe that this is an indication of just giving awards out to make everyone feel good. it seems that this school has been producing some incredible students. i think it is amazing that they have 25 seniors with all "A"s, especially if they are laden with AP and college-level courses. That is how they earn above 4.0 rather than make fun of this school as if they were giving trophies out to everyone who participated I think that we should be celebrating a program that is capable of producing such high performers, especially in an age when so many schools are struggling to maintain accreditation. just sayin' |

I'm leaning towards troll. I'd hate to think you were that stupid. * If you're work is making you feel less human, you need to find something else to do. You job should be rewarding. This is one of life's prime directives. See the series "Dirty Jobs" and Mike Rowe's speech about how happy these people are. * You can feel free to run a business as a democracy any time you like. No one tells you how your organization should be arranged. Prove everyone wrong and make your model successful! Otherwise, STFU. |

They were in a High School in the outskirts of Tampa area. This was supposed to be one of the best schools around. I kid you not, but the graduations, I would say half the class was shown as having a 4.0 (including my relatives). Guess what... inflated scores by dumbing down the entire class. NONE OF THE 3 COULD HACK IT IN A PUBLIC COLLEGE AND ALL DROPPED OUT OF COLLEGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they were not the only ones from that school. They are doing these kids no favors, just hurting them. |

It does not matter if 100 kids worked just as hard... It is very hard work and takes real dedication to reach such a high level of excellence. They all deserve their day to shine! I also think that every last one of them should be allowed to speak. Just limit the time. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1366833 United States 05/10/2012 10:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I went to high school, we were on a 4.0 system. So if you spent your time in the "bunny" English/Math/Sciences and got an A it counted as much as someone in an honors or Advanced Placement AP college prep course and got an A. Our high school had two valedictorians with 4.0s, and I was salutitorian with a 3.98 (I had an A- in AP US history and A- in AP Calculus). The valecdictorians had never taken an honors or AP class. They both have gone on to proudly do nothing with their lives. I graduated high school with 15 college credits which basically meant I was starting college as a 2nd year student. I actually like the idea of a 5.0 system for students who take REAL courses like AP Calculus instead of basic math in high school. If 25 of those students all took AP classes and got As, then by all means, give them the honor of being 1st in their class. |

cetra8 User ID: 1331910 United States 05/10/2012 10:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As for a 5.0 GPA it is because of weighted grading systems. Schools with A.P. and gifted programs usually weight advanced classes higher than non advanced classes. Therefore if you are a straight A student taking all advanced classes it is possible to do better than a 4.0, because you have done more work than someone whose maximum is a 4.0. Cheers, Glad I could help. Manage your own affairs that is enough for one life. May your path be free of tyranny. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1507763 United States 05/10/2012 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Do a little research O.P. As schools get larger the statistical chance that more students will have the same GPA and same amount of volunteer and extra-curricular hours goes up. As these are the factors that determine a valedictorian it is inevitable that there will be more and more of them. It is math, not a conspiracy. My graduating class was almost 1500 we had 40-something valedictorians back in 2004. Quoting: cetra8 As for a 5.0 GPA it is because of weighted grading systems. Cheers, Glad I could help. Yes, and that is a joke. That system makes the title "valedictorian" irrelevant. What's the point in working hard when everybody's a winner? That is beyond stupid. I'd be willing to bet that every single one of those 40 and the 25 are academically inferior by FAR than a valedictorian of 20 years or more ago. |
