Maybe this will lead to the total meltdown of the area that when it reaches a certain point underground and hits a water vein will cause such an eruption that Japan splits in two and the eastern half slides in to sea as predicted by Cayce.

The liquified core is 2500-5000F. While melting down, it also melts and incorporates into the mass of molten fuel surrounding metal, concrete, dirt... whatever it comes into contact with. This is called corium. The corium is probably by now at some depth into the ground, it has an outer shell, vaporizes any water that comes near it and is sizzling and hissing away, emitting all kinds of lethal radioisotopes.

This is an unprecedented event and only small-scale experiments have been done in the past to understand the behavior. Some speculation exists that the corium would go into the ground about 20 feet before it collects enough impurities to achieve a relatively stable state.

100 years from now we may have the answers... unless, of course it hits groundwater, in which case we will see a massive steam explosion that will be hard to miss.
