US President summoned for jury duty

US President George W Bush has been summoned for jury duty in a Texas court.

The President has been asked to attend a court near his Texas ranch next Monday, as one of 600 potential jurors for a range of cases.

It is the first time Mr Bush has been summoned since moving to the White House and his spokesman Scott McClellan says he is fairly confident the President will not have to fulfil his civic responsibility.

"We have since called the court to inform them that the President has other commitments on Monday and that he would like to reschedule his jury duty," he said.

"And so we´ll be working the court to reschedule his jury duty."
