In November, 2011, the USDA's National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) held a meeting in Savannah, Georgia. During that meeting, two 12-billion-dollar corporations-- Martek Biosciences (a division of the Dutch biotechnology giant DSM), and WhiteWave (a division of the dairy behemoth Dean Foods)—received approval for synthetic, genetically mutated DHA and ARA oils derived from algae and soil fungus, which are then grown in a medium of genetically engineered corn products and organics.

Furthermore, the oil is then extracted from this biomass using synthetic solvents including hexane, a neurotoxic byproduct of gasoline refinement that is specifically banned in organics. Martek Biosciences' lobbyists duped the NOSB into believing that banning hexane was enough of a safeguard but they failed to look at the other petroleum-based solvents used (illegal in organic production). " But petrochemical solvent extraction is just the tip of the iceberg. Other questionable manufacturing practices and misleading statements by includedi:
•Undisclosed synthetic ingredients, prohibited for use in organics (including the sugar alcohol mannitol, modified starch, glucose syrup solids, and "other" undisclosed ingredients)
•Microencapsulation of the powder (possibly using nanotechnology), which are prohibited under organic laws
•Use of volatile synthetic solvents, besides hexane (such as isopropyl alcohol)
•Recombinant DNA techniques and other forms of genetic modification of organisms; mutagenesis; use of GMO corn as a fermentation medium
•Heavily processed ingredients that are far from "natural"

It's an atrocity when we are forced to support through our taxes, gov't agencies that formed to so-called "protect" us, but are, instead, trying to sicken and kill us.

The term "organic" meant more before the government created the organic standard and began regulating it. The government definition of organic even includes food that is by no measure organic, if an organic distributor has an order and there is no organic product to meet it, they can substitute non-organics a good proportion of the time while still usi g the "organic" label.

The government organic label is more or less a joke, but you have a generally better quality of produce under it, and that is what you are paying for.

The Obama Administration has been disgracefully bad at food administration. Whatever blurbs come out from time to time abou Michelle Obama trying to get kids to "move" and eat more vegetables, masks the growing corporate fascism in our food supply,where bad food is misrepresented as good to help corporate profits.

The Kasha cereal (natural, right?) put out by Kellogg, claims they will have all the GMOs out by 2015. Ummm - we are supposed to be fine with a promise during 2012, 2013, 2014, and probably through the end of 2015? I'm sorry, but that's not remotely acceptable.

Would be cool to start a community where we could control the quality of the products we use, all the way down to the dishes. Farmer Brown over here supplies the meats, Farmer Smith over here makes the non-toxic furniture, while his wife and kids grow the veggies, Farmer Jones has a huge orchard.... You get the point.

Also discovered DHA/ARA in infant formula is causing illnes and injury in babies.
DHA/ARA is a GMO'd synthetic algal product, unsafe for people with fish allergies and was/is in Horizon "organic" milk. I forwarded the info to a friend as she is allergic to any fish product. She had recently bought some of that milk and became extremely ill, but could not figure out why.

I have thought the same thing. maybe not 100% self sufficient but whatever is imported is controlled. Safe water, food, neighborly etc...

You're describing what used to be called a village.....which is the way our ancestors lived for thousands and thousands of years. This is why globalization is such a massive fail - there is no element of control by local people.

The only way you can control the quality of the food you eat, your dishes, your clothes, your housewares, etc, is either to make it yourself, or know who makes it, or have some definite relationship with someone who makes it. That's no possible with the global structure. It ensures poisons for us, and profits for the elite.

its just ridiculous how bad food tastes these days. I usually prepare healthy vegan foods at home and lately every time I eat out at a nice restaurant, it tastes horrible. I don't even enjoy it anymore.

I am slowly training myself to eat less and less and not feel hungry.

Farmers market for veggies, farm for raw goat milk and eggs. Local butcher shop for meat. Buy local and know your farmers.

Woot. Hooray for us. Wanna tell us something we don't already know. But last I heard cancer and obesity is rising in all western countries and I guarantee you that within a decade EU regulations will force your countries to have similar laws. That was the entire point behind the creation of the EU. It wasn't for your benefit it was for your controllers benefit. The only reason you aren't as far along as us is because the power in the EU isn't consolidated enough yet. Your obesity rates are only a decade behind ours meaning in 10 years you will be as fat as we are today. that is hardly something to gloat about. In fact you should learn a valuable lesson from this and overthrow the fucking EU because if you allow it to go on you will not survive.

Anyway on a bright note and this is off topic. Whenever some fat ass tries to tell me something about diet I point out to them that their opinion means nothing unless they back it up with results. If you're fat don't go around giving advise on what is healthy to eat.

I shop at a farmers market and talk to the people that from my food. I like to think its healthier. It sure tastes better.

As for the Horizons products, I stopped using them and Stoneybrook, and stopped shopping at Whole Foods when they all "got in bed" with Monsanto this year, claiming that organics could co-exist with gmo's. It doesn't surprise me that your friend's baby was sickened by anything made by Monsanto. The horrendous upward trend of auto-immune disorders have skyrocketed since the introduction of the gmo's into our food supply over the past 10 years. What a crock the FDA is - I wish we could actually vote on the agencies we want to support with our tax dollars. It might be 1 or 2, if that.

Son before you laugh yourself silly you need to think you are deluded as in spite of protests GMO foods are allowed in the Netherlands and without a doubt you are held captive to whatever the EU ultimately decides.

What did you think "USDA Organic" was for? Most people thought, "Cool, now I know it's organic 'cause that's a government label."

Research, research, research...

The best thing to do is buy a greenhouse .. harbor frieght $300 10×12 .. $500 on a converter, solar panel, etc .. and buy and use your own recycled organic seeds.. on land that hasn't been used for a few years preferably an old compost or start one .. and do it all youself .. so easy, and cheap! .. in the long run .. plus the health is more then worth it ..

Couple marine batteries ..good ones a few hundred also good to have on hand .. and the extras you should need ..

Support your local farms!! ..and barter food .. couple chickens if you can

Spray garden plants once a week seventh generation mint/lavender.. rain heavy, twice anweek .. couple sprays 10 drops water bottle (large)
