Re: Why are sunspots forming in the southern hemisphere?
They form in both hemispheres - that's how sunspots work.

At the beginning of the cycle, the first sunspots will form well above, and below, the sun's equator.

As the cycle matures, the migrate towards the equator, until the peak is reached when the Northern and Southern spots 'meet in the middle'

Then as the cycle fades, equatorial spots will fade with the cycle, until the sun becomes more or less 'blank' aorund minimum - before startinng the next cycle again, with spots quite far north and/or quite far south.

Oh - and the greatest risk from flares comes when the spots are nearest the equator - front and centre.

The Sun is a ball - so when flares go off above or below the equator, the majority of the effects will pass 'above' or 'below' Earth - in the same way those tha fire off when they are east or west of the centre, will mostly pass left or right of us.

in terms of earth, not always so, as the earth orbit is not perfectly around the equator of the sun at all times, its lopsided.

Dunno who told you that, but it's BS.

I DEFINITELY saw it during the last cycle (early 2000s), and the one before that...(Late 80s/early 90s)

Probably many times befroe that too - but I have definite memories of it from at least the last two solar cycles
