I can see OP understands nothing about economics. iamwith

How can small businesses afford to pay those kind of wages?

Look for inflation to go up and employment to go down.. 5a
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1211208

I see you continue to believe the Republican Bullshit. If high minimum wages caused employment to go down then Australia would half the highest unemployment rate in the world. But they don't. Their economy is absolutely stellar compared to ours.

Well it does make some difference for sure it does.
For example, there is never any jobs under a labor government, but those who have them get paid more than they should.
They always increase public servant bludgers and make more taxes.
Under liberal there is jobs, but the wages are less, they cut the public servant bludgers, and taxes are less.

Dumbass. There are 7 million unemployed Australians using that measure. Or roughly 1/3 of your population. Just like now 100 million Americans are 1/3 of our population.

That isn't a measure of unemployed it's people not working. There is a difference.

You can buy a recenlty built home in most parts of the US for less than 500 dollars/month. Hell. I make only 2000 dollars/mo and own a 2010 BMW and a house with a swimming pool. It's all relative.

Just some facts here.

2013 BMW 328i in the US costs 32k

Same car in Australia is 70k.

A loaf of cheap ass bread can be bought for 79c at certain places.

Fuel is still typically less than $1/liter and in some places less than 70c/liter.

Everything costs half as much so it's not surprising that the minimum wage is half as much.

Australia has 11 million employed people out of 23 million.

It has labor force participation rate of 65% Meaning 35% of working age able bodied people are without without a job.

United States has 300 million people of which 146 million people are employed.

It has labor force Participation rate of 64% meaning 36% of working aged able bodied people are without a job.

The official unemployment rates don't mean shit. It just means that %5 of the labor force are looking for work in Australia while 8% of people in the US are. But looking at the labor force participation rate you can see there isn't much difference. Only 1% It's just that less people in the US have given up looking for work than in Australia.

Not saying anything, you know, but!!

I don't shop in Redfern! I know it is cheaper but.....you know!

I would rather pay a little more for my bread and milk. That way I have an idea where it has been made.

You don't need to want pompous poofter bread ...it is getting shoved down our throats and you know it..........unless you are trying to be blind..........which I do understand. I try it too sometimes.
