I appreciate you getting what I'm saying. She put herself at risk. Frankly, she could have chosen safer ways and still managed to make a big difference.

No, not all white women who go there end up raped... most go in groups of people together and stay together. They STILL make a big difference and help a lot of people, but they don't go around by themselves. It's just not safe.

I think it's wonderful and admirable that she went over to help. But it helps NO ONE to take away the FACT that she put herself at risk.

It's compassion that pushes women to help. But we need to be given wisdom and wise counsel like DO NOT GO ALONE in order to be of the greatest help! She had to leave to go recover, but she wouldn't have had to recover from it if she'd been wise to begin with.

We need to be honest about the fact that she put herself at risk. Because she knows it, too. I don't care what anyone says, she knows it, too. And that means she needs to forgive herself for doing so. No healing can occur while you refuse to accept what personal responsibility you bear (realistic or otherwise) in any situation.

If we all sit around "it wasn't your fault" while she KNOWS that she put herself at risk, we're not really helping her. Helping her would be to say, "Yes, you did put yourself at risk. But remember, that's a very SMALL THING compared to what he did, and billions of women put themselves at risk every day, often without even realizing it. So yes, you did contribute. But let's look at the bigger picture."

She can't heal while we all lie about it and pretend she didn't in any way contribute to being AVAILABLE for the rapist.

But it doesn't help any other woman who decides to go help to pretend that, because it's "not your fault" it's a GREAT thing to go put yourself FOOLISHLY at risk.

I lived in the Dominican Republic for a few years, racism amongst humans is always there whenever there's any difference. If everyone looked the same, then would be finding because of different beliefs. But basically Haitians are looked as sub humans by many immature Dominicans who would joke around about their skin (Think of how easy it is for little kids to pick on a kid who's different, adults are the same way), add to the fact that Haiti doesn't speak Spanish like other countries around the area really hurts them. They have no partners and now willing partners. You can go on thinking that it's because of their skin color that they're so poor, and that they are inferior to you and you're so amazing, but at least acknowledge that those racial, racism, language problems would be a real big knock for any country under a similar position.
