Get out a map. If I was in America I would choose somewhere like the appalachians, or way up north where there is few people. There is always old shacks that people want to rent usually cheap.
I live nearly 2 hours from the closest town. My rent is $50 a week. Solar power and spring water. Very basic. If you have money to buy a place they are dirt cheap. You only need enough room for chooks and a vege garden. A goat or cow for milk and cheese if you want the extra work.
If you want this, you can do it for nearly no money or not much. Most people have much more than they need. I have very little stress out here. I visit the city cause I love to watch the people but I would die if I lived there.
