>>> The CZARS! <<<
[Perhaps The Greatest Singer You Have Never Heard!]

Name is John Grant. Group is the CZARS.

His voices gives me chills [and being a musician myself, I can't say that for very many singers].

Good set of selection of MP3 samples here:

The CZARS albums are not easy to find. Wherehouse doesn't have them listed at all. Borders has most of their material listed as out-of-print, including their most recent album - GOODBYE - from 2004. I finally ordered it from Amazon yesterday as I've been waiting a month for my local shop to get it in on special order.

They sound quite different from track to track, very simon and garfunkel, 60's folksy in X and Y

Good tip 7423. I just went and sampled it on Amazon. A very creative endeavor. Thanks! Doesn't have the baritone of Grant however. Compares well with another favorite of mine - the Pernice Brothers. Try the first few tracks of Discover a Lovlier You:

Re: >>> The CZARS! <<<
Every song sounds basically the same. The music is melodramatic and a bit self-important, ironic consiering the amateurish style. The vocalist has no range and sings r e a l l y s l o w l y. He's about one octave higher than angst. The lyrics are dull and disinteresting.

but at least it's not rap.

You sound even more jaded than I. Oh well. I understand. Grant touches something in me, something hinted at and forshadowed by Brendan Perry [Dead Can Dance]. That's all. We're not talking perfect music or songs...something else.

Re: >>> The CZARS! <<<
Mote than likely she is very pretty.

Nice legs, nice face, built just right.

But Im not intrested.

Not in that way.

What do you think it would look like, if a guy dated a girl, but in-back of her, was this guy in a black smock, and in similar fashion to a kabuki theater doll, was telling her everything to do.

I know Russ like the back of my hand, but that squirt over there, whose now in office, better not have used her in that fashion.

Re: >>> The CZARS! <<<
I waited tables with the drummer for The Czars from 1998 until 2000. The guys are based in Denver, and Jeff is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. He's recently left the band, but plays with another Denver musician named Andy Monley.
I've never met John (lead singer) or the other members, but based on knowing Jeff, I'd say the rest of the band must be pretty cool.

You can order their music from www.twistandshout.com, a large record store in Denver. Their website is www.czars.net, and you can link to them thru Bella Union, their label. Their first two albums are really nice. Glad to see others like their music.

Re: >>> The CZARS! <<<
3831 - I am amazed at how unknown this band appears to be. But it is probably the nature of the times. I decided this year - against all odds - to come out of retirement, and requested a sampler from my old-time music partner to explore what I may have been missing. He sent about 200 songs/artists. And the CZARS selection was the one that most grabbed me.

Music Express [Germany] carries all 3 of their albums, and has more samples too:

Re: >>> The CZARS! <<<
BIO

From shuffling west coast pop and crashing electronica to alt-country and delicate ballads, Denver's The Czars sound like no other band.
Built around John Grant's vocals and song writing, The Czars reflect his eclectic tastes as diverse as Kraftwerk, Patsy Cline, Tom Waits and Nina Simone. Their haunting yet rousing live performances are more than a match for their acclaimed albums like The Ugly People Vs. The Beautiful People, and Goodbye, the latter of which was in Uncut magazine's Top 50 albums of 2004.

The Czars have headlined several tours throughout Europe, the UK, and the United States. They have also toured with or opened for The Flaming Lips, Low, The Dirty Three, The Album Leaf, Calexico, David Gray, 16 Horsepower, Ween, Viva Voce, Hem, Imperial Teen, and Elf Power.

After 10 years, 3 full-length releases on Bella Union, 4 EPs, countless tours, and a few member changes, the strength and vitality of John's music continues to grow.

---------------------------------------

"The Czars rise above musical fads and trends in their search for something richer and more enduring."
-AP.

---------------------------------------

"Grant's voice is quite simply a gift from someone somewhere, with the intention to grace the most forlorn of country laments."
-THE MUSE.

---------------------------------------

"Songs to break your heart and make you feel good about it....."
-MOJO.

---------------------------------------

"....Grant is blessed with the voice of a sad-eyed angel."
-THE GUARDIAN.

You can get four full-length songs to listen to here:

The only catch is that some fool has inserted/programmed a random "hello" effect in the player that rattles the nerves. Maybe it's some kind of piracy deterent.
