I'm presenting the results of all the observations in the 'Modern' Era. The results will probably change with added and improved observations, they usually do. As of now, the best we can do is work with the tools we have. The tools at our disposal are rapidly improving as seen in the ESO video. I'm just glad to be able to witness the new discoveries that will be coming. Did you hear about the new Russian radio telescope launched last year? It's called Spektr-R [link to en.wikipedia.org] and will supposedly be able to make radio-astrophysical observations of extragalactic objects with ultra-high resolution. They are hoping to provide detailed images of the universe at 1,000 times the resolution attainable using the Hubble Space Telescope. It's been operating for almost a year...
