WV without power, gas, and grocery stores out of stock/closed?

Yup. My sibs are about 100 miles further down 79. Said the derecho ran right up 79.

And sometimes hog shit smells like survival -- lots of firewood, deer, running water to boil, wild herbs to forage, etc. etc. etc.

Isn't that normal daily life for that shit hole state?

I drove through West Virginia yesterday on the way back to Niagara Falls from Myrtle Beach. Power was out in most places along the way and gas stations were empty. One town we drove through showed 112 degrees on the thermometer. Didn't look too good. We were looking all over for gas and finally found a place that only had 93 octane. The 87 and 89 were empty. People were running out of gas and just pulling over and stopping at rest areas and hotels.

Very bad situation there.

Was able to talk to my sister in Fayette county this am...it has been bad...three days no electric...water being boiled...a few stores are open now...AEP said they hope to have power back on in Oak Hill sometime today...It was bad...but my family is ok...the most important thing right now! It is hard when you live across the country from each other! Thanks OP for starting this thread!!! You have been most helpful for having a place to gather and share info!!

My mother in law and her mom live in South Charleston, they have been told they should have power by Wednesday. Fortunately for them, they are tough old birds and always have a stock of canned and preserved foods. The family (uncles and cousins) are industrial electricians, they brought a small generator over so they could run fans and a small window AC. Grandma is 92 so the heat is not good for her. Doesn't help with water to drink, bathe or flush, but at least they have food and a way to fight the heat.

was down for me from 8:30PM friday and didn't get restored until 2:30AM this morning. as of a few moments ago (report on the radio) there were still approx. 20k homes in the area still with no power. We experienced wind gusts of over 65mph in my county, not common

Where are you, nopower? My sibs are in Roane and Jackson Co.

Update--

Family just told me people are siphoning gas from people's cars. People are also stealing ice out of ice boxes outside of gas stations.

Local police said up to 2 weeks without power.

Family is doing okay, they have neighbors that have been through this sort of thing down south.

You have no fucking clue. WV is a beautiful state. I have lived here my entire life and I can honestly say it doesnt smell like hog shit unless you are on a farm with hogs. You most likely got a good smell of your own breath if you thought you smelled hog shit.

People in Wv like that you feel that way..it keeps out the riff raff, the trash..no multiculture bullcrap..Most the men hunt, fish, and mechanicaly inclined to keep those chevy trucks rolling right over your ass.

many people may see that as being 'paranoid'.....but I think it's VERY smart. Not so much for apolcalyptic events....more for severe weather and/or power outages.

spoke to my BFF - she got my 911 thru her daughter - no working phones - she called me from a landline in a store miles away w/calling card

no power no gas no water - wally world is only open. one place for gas miles from her and theres lines.

power-line fires preventing immed restoration.

state road isnt cleaning up downed poles/trees - the people are.

banks may not be open monday or ties due to no power - no power no digital transactions.

ntelos phone - down. us cellular phone - down. sprint is semi working. vzn is semi working.

all cable/internet down.

clarksburg - jane lew, glen elk, shinnston, fairmont and phillipi in the dark sustained severe damage. ppl in cities fucked.

bridgeport hill walmart is open. supplies limited or none.

wv's foreast today is more storms between 5-7pm....and thru the week.

bet on little to no action on restoring power/gas/water.
