WV without power, gas, and grocery stores out of stock/closed?

That wouldn't explain why DC was hit. If they're going to intentionally take the whole thing down, DC will be the last to go since that's where their power structure is. Northern Virginia (home to many govt agencies and contractors, aka the hub of the Military Industrial Complex) was the hardest hit over here.

I am in DC and, luckily, kept my power. In fact, I slept through the whole thing. I am on the same grid as the Capitol so that helps, my friend just 5 miles to the south loses power for days in every small storm.

I was able to fill up my gas tank no problem. The shopping center up the street from me has been out since yesterday but all I did was drive 5 or so miles to find gas, open stores, no lines. I grabbed two 6-packs of beer from my favorite liquor store, warm dinner and a tank of gas and settled back in at home. It was not mayhem on the streets.

Traffic lights are out and people are acting crazy on the road but other than that, we're good.

We all know if they were "imploding" the grid, they certainly wouldn't go for DC. Many are still without power here and will be for quite some time. It isn't intentional, it's because Pepco (our local power authority) is inept and many lines are still above ground despite this happening any time the wind blows.

I find it shameful that some people here will kick those who have fallen down. How about making useful posts or not wasting our time?

For instance, in a disaster area, the area around hospitals will usually not lose power as most are essential services and have specially protected utility services. If they do, government will get them back online first since people would start dying in the hospitals when back-up generators reached their limits. Any businesses near a hospital stand a good chance of having power throughout the event or shortly after it passes. Think food, air conditioning, perhaps gasoline if you are lucky.

If you know of any Asian owned donut shops, they seem to open before other restaurants. I think it has to do with their work ethic and preparation for staying in business.

If a nearby neighbor has a power generator, perhaps he will share an extension cord to your house to keep your refrigerator going. Of course that means you actually have to be civilized enough to speak to your neighbor.


If you have a coffee maker, you can use it to make a pot of steaming hot water. Just put in a filter without the coffee. A properly working maker should heat the water hot enough to kill most bacteria. I don't maintain your maker, so Your Mileage May Vary.

it was a fucking storm..albeit a strong one but damn...it DOES happen. The grid is NOT going down....and power WILL BE restored like it always is.

Same here. Water is the first thing to think about, and most people have very little stored water.

Charles Town, WV checking in. Power just came back on. Thank God! It was quite an interesting experience tho. It makes you realize how hard life would become if the power goes out for good. I hope everyone is safe and is keeping cool.

I have family in Lewis...

No power..
No gas..
Still have water...
Wal-mart open 20 some miles away.
No other stores open due to no power and only accept cash at local CVS.
Could take 2 weeks for power to restore.

I was born and raised in NE Ohio..I've seen some pretty crazy storms, but this is nuts.

Hey doomtards, i'm in central wv, just got my sprint cell back...land lines down my ntelos internet is out, no power . People standed on all interstate exits in my county...all the sub stations got whavked. The power company says they are going allout to grt the substations back online so they can get power back to the buis.ness districts. It hot as hellout...lucky me I have a generator and enought gas to last another couple dayys. Just a.nother storm in life to ride out......

here in Germany we had a kinda similar happening this weekend, not too bad, trees/posts down, high winds,
roof damage, things like that; also a few dead including 3 ladies that got hit by lighting because they were ...golfing, yup, storm (+) metal poles (=) priceless.


My point is that this is not an isolated case in the east coast of the US, somethings up worldwide; weather manipulation, solar activity, the jet stream not where is should be, who knows?! All I know is that 2 weeks ago we got record heat and then big hail, then rain then sun again, all the same day, just plain weird.

Good thing is that there is a lot of "closet preppers" here, specially in winter, and this year it's gonna be a long one, you'll see.
