GOVERNMENT MOTORS shares near RECORD LOWS, Taxpayers out BILLIONS!
This is what happens when you manufacture cars to a political agenda rather than to market demand. Nobody want these stupid little "green" hybrid tin cans. You can pander to the libtard envirotards with the Volt. You can pander to Hispanics with the Cruz. They are junk. Nobody wants them. Personally, I will never buy another GM car as long as I live. I'd rather the Japs or Germans get my money that a bunch of corrupt union parasites.

Taxpayers are out $35 billion on this gov't. / union scam.
F them!

Look at the GM product line. Their offerings, the lack of overall quality, the cheap paint, lousy fittings, plastic everywhere poorly planned and cheaply glued together - would you want to spend $40k or more on one of their shit-mobiles? No? Neither would most of the American Public.

People who can spend 50k and more on an automobile can get MUCH more for their money in terms of quality, durability, and just plain fun-to-drive factor from almost Any Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes, or Jaguar. These people won' t buy Lexus or Infinity because of the lack of durability and perceived lack of prestige. But they will shell out 50k to 100k for one of several German Engineered cars today. Funny but while GM is dying on the vine, all the German car makers are having a record year!

VW's got two models that are rated the number one and number two car of the year this year. Audi is coming on strong. Mercedes has redone their E class cars and the fit, finish, and quality is superb. And they don't cost any more than many of the big GM offerings in the Cadillac and Buick line-ups.

Why pay $50k plus for a piece of American Made Crap when you can have something that will outlast the financing term by going to a German-engineered product?

Personally, I own two BMW's and I would love to be able to "buy American" just out of a bit of patriotism somewhere deep in my heart. But I'm not going to drive an unsafe, built-to-fall-apart piece of crap from GM just to help bail out Government Motors. Look at a 4 year old Caddy vs a 4 year old Mercedes or BMW. My 2008 BMW 750li is STILL worth about 1/2 of it's initial price when new. The same model year Cadillac is (if it's still on the road and running) worth about 1/3rd to 1/4th of it's original cost.

Considering that an automobile is the 2nd largest purchase for most families, is it any surprise that people go where they can get the best overall quality, features, durability, and price for the dollars they're spending?

Much of what you are paying for when you buy an American car is union pensions and benefits. Therefore, to remain competitive in price, American car makers must find a way to save an equal amount in materials to compensate. If $3000 is built into the price of each car to cover union expenses, the designers must find a way to trim that $3000 out of the car in other ways. Thus, we get a shit product for the same price we can get a decent foreign product.

When car shopping a few years ago (I normally by hondas) but with a new kid we decided to look at all makes and models. Internet research was first conducted, EVERY american made vehicle was immedately excluded on price alone. Comparable models are at minumum 5k more for american vehicles...

Its common sense, i dont even need to calculate the (cost of repairs or resale value in it). $5k is still 5k, regardless of anything else. Outside of " American pride" why would you by gm?

The American people should be required to buy shares of GM stock, and if they refuse they should have to pay a penalty.

Not a TAX, mind you, but a PENALTY.

So, op, then how did GM become the NUMBER 1 selling car in the WORLD after passing Toyota for such honor for the first time in MANY YEARS?

How?

Explain...now.

Not the point, really.

The point is that investors in Government Motors stock (American taxpayers) are losing money hand over fist on their "investment".

Fleet Vehicles and Rental cars. Nobody is buying as many as they say, and they aren't supposed to include the fleet sales, but they do. Too big to fail, to dumb to survive.

I don't know about the pensions and unions and crap BUT I do know a lot about cars and you are poorly informed.

First , Mercedes autos have some of the worst reliability ratings out there. So does vw and audi. BmW s are a little better but when these cars get old they get real expensive to fix.

Not all American cars are the same. Ford is building some of the best cars they've ever built. Gm has always built mostly shit and still does.
