Shocking new report on Military says Sex Offenders may hold SENIOR posts!

A DAMNING report on sexual abuse in the military has found unprosecuted rapists are likely to remain in senior positions
in the armed forces.

Releasing the report, which included a "plausible" and graphic account of the gang rape of a 13-year-old boy, the
Defence Minister, Stephen Smith, said the allegations of abuse within the Defence Force "will shock some people".

Mr Smith said the government would soon announce its response to the report. He said a royal commission, a formal apology
and compensation were "options".

The review by law firm DLA Piper said a large number of victims deserved compensation.

"From the 1950s through to the early 1980s, many boys aged 13, 14, 15 and 16 years of age in the ADF [Australian Defence
Force] suffered abuse including serious sexual and other physical abuse," it found. It was "likely" many victims
never reported their abuse or assault, and "a substantial number" of current and former ADF personnel could be at
higher risk of suicide.
