I love the Netherlands, but They have a serious sea level problem.

Atlantis ruled the world at one time, but they couldnt stop mother nature.

I dont wish anything bad to happen to them, but they are too vulnerable to terrorist attack to be a superpower.

One bomb against one of the levies... would be worse than hurrican Katrina.

Hmmmm, it is illegal according to law but lots of so called docters will help you when there is really no chance for a normal life without pain and humanity in prospect...

Don't worry. We are not killing off old people like Rick Santorum suggested.

What do you mean? They are radical christians?
 Quoting: aNONaMITTy

Yes. Relatively speaking of course. Don't worry. They are not blowing shit up. chuckle

Religion under the youth is declining rapidly but those that are, have very strong convictions.
 Quoting: Psych

LOL! So by religion, you mean church stuff? And the youth aren't particularly into religion, but have strong spiritual convictions?
 Quoting: aNONaMITTy

No. I mean that most of the youth are non-believers. But an increasing amount of that small minority that are religious have very strong convictions.

Spirituality is a different and broad subject. It is such an abstract term that it is hard to give a straight answer to it. But to highlight one point, and I am not speaking for the youth in the Netherlands but me and a lot of my friends are leaning towards Buddhist philosophy. Not saying that we are Buddhists but if you want to put labels on it, that would probably be the closest you could get.
 Quoting: Psych

Yes, that helps. So the youth have convictions, it just doesn't center around church and God. I'm guessing most of the youth in the west could be described this way too.

You don't understand our state of the art water management. A lot of our land is designed to be able to be drowned. There are a lot of safety nets so to speak. We always have been sea people and changing our land to be compatible with as well the sea as the important river and canal routes.

In fact in the 80-year war with the Spanish we drowned our land on purpose for a succesful defense.

We had a flood in 1953 tho, in Zeeland after a SW floodstorm, and thousands of lives were lost. We learnt from that and we finished the Delta-Werken sea-barriers.

Nowadays we claim land back of the sea, by dumping billions of tons of sand. We just completed Maasvlakte 2, another expansion for Rotterdam seaport.

OMG we're good.
