The typical used conventional automobile running around gets 25 MPH. When it is decommissioned they remove a 25 lb/10 kg battery and through the whole thing in a shredder.

When they decom these chevy volts, it costs thousands of dollars to prevent the tons of batterys from leaking into the environment.

The power company unhooked them. There's more to the story. No sense in upkeep when the power company wont give support.

Not to mention the mining of nickel for prius batteries.

Face it, there is no alternative energy that will replace coal and oil and even come close to our needs as a nation. You can dream all you want, but in the end, only coal, oil, nat. gas, and nuclear will get er done.

Nonsense pulling the battery will take a few minutes. Lithium is valuable so the scrap yard will get a good chunk of change for it. If its a good battery they will want to resell it.

People cry about oil and chemicals associated with windmills, while hundreds of thousands of gallons are pumped into the ground to frack. Thats some bullshit there. Is wind the only answer? Hell no, but I would feel alot better if big oil would take the dick out my ass.

There would be no wind generators without government subsidies. They will never be profitable. Maybe some day the technology will be there, but it certainly is not now. When the government money drys up there will be a lot of turbines rusting and leaking oil into the ground. Right now, they are cash cows because the government keeps pumping money into that pit. I doubt that the companies running them could pay for maintainence if the government stopped picking up the tab.
