Surprise 'tornado' hits New York
September 09, 2012 3:09AM

A TORNADO swept out of the sea and hit a beachfront neighborhood in New York City today, hurling debris in the air, knocking out power and startling residents who once thought of twisters as a Midwestern phenomenon.

Videos taken by bystanders showed a funnel cloud sucking up water, then sand, and then small pieces of buildings, as it moved through the Breezy Point section of the Rockaway peninsula in the borough of Queens.

"I was showing videos of tornadoes to my 4-year-old on my phone, and two minutes later, it hit," said neighborhood resident Peter Maloney. "Just like they always say, it sounded like a train."

At the Breezy Point Surf Club, the tornado ripped the roofs off rows of cabanas, scattered deck chairs and left a heavy metal barbecue and propane tank sitting in the middle of a softball field

The roof of Bob O'Hara's cabana was torn off, leaving tubes of sunscreen, broken beer bottles and an old TV set exposed to the elements.

"We got a new sunroof," said O'Hara,

meteorologist Pete Snyder says radar didn't show a tornado in the area, but a team was dispatched to determine what happened.

Radar data, video and witness reports confirmed that the cyclone that hit New York City was a tornado. Hofmann said some witnesses were reporting that the wind had been strong enough to lift cars off the pavement.

a worker at Kennedy's Restaurant at the edge of Jamaica Bay, said she saw a "swirling cone kind of thing with something flying in it" come down and then head back out into the water toward Brooklyn.

"It was scary. We have all glass so we kept saying, 'Get away from the glass!' just in case it did come back around," she said.

Vesta is the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and family in Roman religion. Vesta's presence is symbolized by the sacred fire that burned at her hearth and temples. Her closest Greek equivalent is Hestia.

The Vesta Egg is an old traditional jewellery box, derived from Vesta (goddess of hearth, home and family). The jewellery box was used to keep precious jewellery in a safe place and symbolised protection of the jewellery and protection for the person wearing the jewellery .[34] The egg decorated in jewels was most commonly used for holding wedding rings and similar to the modern faberge egg

NASA Dawn spacecraft traveling to dwarf planet
Updated 5:05 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Next and final stop: The biggest object in the asteroid belt.

After spending a year gazing at a giant asteroid, NASA's Dawn spacecraft on Wednesday began the cruise toward an even bigger target — a voyage that will take nearly three years.

Ground controllers received a signal from Dawn that it successfully spiraled away from the asteroid Vesta and was headed toward the dwarf planet Ceres.

It was "smooth and elegant and graceful," said chief engineer Marc Rayman of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which manages the $466 million mission.

Launched in 2007, Dawn is on track to become the first spacecraft to rendezvous with two celestial bodies in a bid to learn about the solar system's evolution.

Vesta and Ceres are the largest bodies in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter that's littered with space rocks that never quite bloomed into full-fledged planets.

Dawn uncovered a few surprises. Scientists have long known that Vesta sports an impressive scar at its south pole, likely carved by an impact with a smaller asteroid. A closer inspection revealed that Vesta hid a second scar in the same region — evidence that it had been whacked twice within the last 2 billion years.

The collisions spewed chunks of debris into space; some fell to Earth as meteorites.

Vesta acts more like an "almost planet" than garden-variety, lightweight asteroids.

Vesta was "on its way to planethood if it continued to grow,"

"Almost everything we see at Ceres will be a surprise and totally different from Vesta,"

:ceres:
In ancient Roman religion, Ceres was a goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships.[1] She was originally the central deity in Rome's so-called plebeian or Aventine Triad, then was paired with her daughter Proserpina in what Romans described as "the Greek rites of Ceres"

Ceres' name may derive from the hypothetical Proto-Indo-European root *ker, meaning "to grow", which is also a possible root for many English words, such as "create", "cereal", "grow", "kernel", "corn", and "increase". Roman etymologists thought "ceres" derived from the Latin verb gerere, "to bear, bring forth, produce", because the goddess was linked to pastoral, agricultural and human fertility. Archaic cults to Ceres are well-evidenced among Rome's neighbours in the Regal period, including the ancient Latins, Oscans and Sabellians, less certainly among the Etruscans and Umbrians.

An archaic Faliscan inscription of c.600 BC asks her to provide far (spelt wheat), which was a dietary staple of the Mediterranean world. Throughout the Roman era, Ceres' name was synonymous with grain and, by extension, with bread.[2]

Multiple planets orbiting binary star system
By Amanda Doyle 03 September 2012

(Sen) - NASA's Kepler space telescope has discovered its first circumbinary planetary system - multiple planets orbiting two stars. The binary star system, designated Kepler-47, is 4,900 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus.

The news comes less than a year after the discovery of Kepler-16b, a planet which, like Tatooine in Star Wars, is orbiting two stars.

"In contrast to a single planet orbiting a single star, the planet in a circumbinary system must transit a 'moving target.' As a consequence, time intervals between the transits and their durations can vary substantially, sometimes short, other times long,"

"The intervals were the telltale sign these planets are in circumbinary orbits."

Kepler-47b, the inner planet, has an orbital period around the binary star of less than 50 days. This is close enough to the stars for hellish temperatures to exist on the planet

The outer planet, which is called Kepler-47c, has a much larger orbit of 303 days, which places it in the habitable zone of the star system.

"The presence of a full-fledged circumbinary planetary system orbiting Kepler-47 is an amazing discovery,"

Comet Pan-STARRS: How bright will it get?
September 6, 2012 by Nancy Atkinson, Universe Today

Early next year, a comet will come fairly close to Earth and the Sun—traveling within the orbit of Mercury—and it has the potential to be visible to the naked eye.

Amateur and professional astronomers alike have been keeping watch on Comet C/2011 L4 PANSTARRS (or PANSTARRS for short), trying to ascertain just how bright this comet may become. It will come within 45 million kilometers (28 million miles) of the Sun on March 9, 2013, which is close enough for quite a bit of cometary ice to vaporize and form a bright coma and tail.

But just how bright, no one can say for sure. Comets have been known to be very unpredictable (remember the breakup of Comet Elenin?) but some estimates have said this comet could become a naked-eye object, as bright as Vega or Arcturus next March.

:pan:

PAN was the god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music. He wandered the hills and mountains of Arkadia playing his pan-pipes and chasing Nymphs. His unseen presence aroused feelings of panic in men passing through the remote, lonely places of the wilds.

Pan was depicted as a man with the horns, legs and tail of a goat, and with thick beard, snub nose and pointed ears.

He was often appears in the retinue of Dionysos alongside the other rustic gods. Greeks in the classical age associated his name with the word pan meaning "all". However, it true origin lies in an old Arkadian word for rustic.

Pan was frequently identified with other similar rustic gods such as Aristaios, the shepherd-god of northern Greece, who like Pan was titled both Agreus (the hunter) and Nomios (the shepherd); as well as with the pipe-playing Phrygian satyr Marsyas; and Aigipan, the goat-fish god of the constellation Capricorn.

Sometimes Pan was multiplied into a host of Panes, or a triad named Agreus, Nomios, and Phorbas.

The principal seat of his worship was Arcadia and from thence his name and his worship afterwards spread over other parts of Greece; and at Athens his worship was not introduced till the time of the battle of Marathon.

He is said to have had a terrific voice, and by it to have frightened the Titans in their fight with the gods. (Eratosth. Catast. 27.) It seems that this feature, namely, his fondness of noise and riot, was the cause of his being considered as the minister and companion of Cybele and Dionysus.

He was at the same time believed to be possessed of prophetic powers, and to have even instructed Apollo in this art. While roaming in his forests he fell in love with Echo, by whom or by Peitho he became the father of Iynx. His love of Syrinx, after whom he named his flute, is well known from Ovid and about his other amours see Georg. iii.

Fir-trees were sacred to him, as the nymph Pitys, whom he loved, had been metamorphosed into that tree

BIRTH OF PAN

Homeric Hymn 19 to Pan (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th - 4th B.C.) :

"Hermes . . . came to Arkadia (Arcadia), the land of many springs and mother of flocks, there where his sacred place is as god of Kyllene (Cyllene). For there, though a god, he used to tend curly-fleeced sheep in the service of a mortal man, because there fell on him and waxed a strong melting desire to wed the rich-tressed daughter of Dryopos, and there he brought about the merry marriage. And in the house she bare Hermes a dear son who from his birth was marvellouse to look upon, with goat's feet and two horns--a noisy, merry-laughing child.

But when the nurse saw his uncouth face and full beard, she was afraid and sprang up and fled and left the child. Then luck-bringing Hermes received him and took him in his arms: very glad in his heart was the god. And he went quickly to the abodes of the deathless gods, carrying his son wrapped in warm skins of mountain hares, and set him down beside Zeus and showed him to the rest of the gods.

Then all the immortals were glad in heart and Bakkheios (Bacchic) Dionysos in especial; and they called the boy Pan [i.e. derived from the word pantes meaning ‘all’] because he delighted all their hearts."

As in the Gospel of Mary (pages 17-18 of the papyrus) and in Pistis Sophia (chapter 146), Simon Peter is not enthusiastic about the presence of Mariham (mentioned in Saying 21), just as in John 4:27 the disciples of Jesus are amazed because he is speaking with a woman. Male and female must become one (Saying 23 and Commentary). Jesus will 'draw' her (John 12:32) so that she will become 'one spirit' with him (1 Corinthians 6:17).

chiron encourages us to look deep within ourselves to deal with the darkest and deepest of wounds that we have carried for many lifetimes. they need to be flushed out and transformed/transmuted if we are to raise our frequencies as divinely planned. it is our free will as humans to embrace these changes or ignore them and deal with the consequences at a later stage. if we embrace this our hidden gifts and sound knowledge of the unknown resurface and an awakening is experienced. this process has been going for quite a while but the sudden acceleration is now apparent.

Chiron was a Centaur (half man half horse)

Centaur comes from the Greek Kentauros

Kentauros means Kenta - Aura

or

someone the sows/knits the aura of beings

2060 Chiron

it was the first-known member of a new class of objects now known as centaurs, with an orbit between Saturn and Uranus.

Although it was initially called an asteroid and classified as a minor planet, it was later found to exhibit behavior typical of a comet. Today it is classified as both, and accordingly it is also known by the cometary designation 95P/Chiron.

Mike Brown lists it as a possible dwarf planet with a measured diameter of 233 km.[8]

Chiron was discovered on 18 October 1977 by Charles Kowal from images taken two weeks earlier at Palomar Observatory.[9] It was given the temporary designation of 1977 UB.[10]

It was found near aphelion[9] and at the time of discovery it was the most distant known minor planet.[10] Chiron was even claimed as the tenth planet by the press.[11]

It had been at perihelion in 1945 but was not discovered then because there were few searches being made at that time, and these were not sensitive to slow-moving objects

It was named 2060 Chiron in 1979[10] after Chiron, one of the centaurs; it was suggested that the names of other centaurs be reserved for objects of the same type.

Chiron's orbit was found to be highly eccentric (0.37), with perihelion just inside the orbit of Saturn and aphelion just outside the perihelion of Uranus

In February 1988, at 12 AU from the Sun, Chiron brightened by 75 percent.[13] This is behavior typical of comets but not asteroids. Further observations in April 1989 showed that Chiron had developed a cometary coma,[13] and a tail was detected in 1993.[10] Chiron differs from other comets in that water is not a major component of its coma, because it is too far from the Sun for water to sublimate.[12]

As man's technological expertise expands, so too does his 'complexity', and hopefully, so does his conscious awareness; and through that awareness, his capacity for compassion and love.

In comparatively recent years, astrologers have begun utilising points and celestial bodies other than the 7 traditional 'planets' in delineation of the natal chart.

Chiron is but one of those modern additions to the ever growing astrological alphabet.

Both Dane Rudhyar (in the Astrology of Personality) and Charles Jayne (in the 1961 issue of In Search) predicted the discovery of Chiron. Rudhyar thought perhaps a "Higher Moon" (just as Uranus is thought of by many as a "Higher Mercury") - between Saturn and Uranus. Such a body, he postulated, would serve as a bridge between the gatekeeper's (Saturn's) protection of the finite world of normal human interaction and the adventure into Galactic or Christic Consciousness initiated by the 'outer' planets.

Chiron then, stands at the bridge of the human world and the transpersonal world, the world of the spirit.

Melanie Reinhart, author of Chiron and the Healing Journey, believes Chiron expresses the need to reintegrate an ancient preverbal knowing into our western rational understanding. She envisions a "biospiritual consciousness, neither material-psychological nor exclusively religious-spiritual, but both. We will not all become shamans, but the current revival of interest in shamanism and natural healing in general is due to man's realisation of the need to retrieve these missing natural parts of ourselves and to reconnect with nature and cosmic forces.

Chiron, in mythology, was the wisest of the Centaurs. His stories are many, but all have as commonality the theme of the Wounded Healer.

He is seen by some as the archetype of the search for inner peace and wisdom, and indeed within the context of the natal chart this is what he can reveal about us. He is the key to the closed door of the unconscious, and seen as the bridge between the old and new planets - he is sometimes referred to as the Rainbow Bridge.

He crawled out of his night time nook, as beads of sweat formed on his neck and brow. His arms grew shaky as his sight began to dim...
Blackness overtook him as he looked on from above...
From above ?
He felt himself sinking down into the darkness of earth, sweet earth , sweet darkness !
and did he dream !

....The " bridge of Sirah". A bridge in the heavens which has a star at on corner of the " great square". This star is called "Sirrah", it is the head of the bound woman Andromeda. This being one corner of the great square, the other three corners of the great square are the wings of Pegasus. The star has a more common name... "Alpheratz".
In celestial myths the " Great Square" represents that place which must be crossed in order to achieve eternal life.

The asterism sits squarely above the location on the ecliptic where the path is the furthest away from the galactic plane. In practically all cultures this is known as the place of death and resurrection.
On the Santiago staff which is inscribed with the Rongo-Rongo script of Easter island, there is a story about a king who had fallen between two posts, and gone to the place where the " birds copulate" with the fishes. This is also a part of the " language of birds".

Down below the great square and under the

" bridge of Sirrah"
,

a man lays on his back with a Phoenix behind him. Above the man's head is another man pouring water towards the man on his back . This man with the pitcher is Aquarius, the man on his back is the sacred Moai waiting to come back to life.
But first he must " cross" the " bridge of Sirrah", above the bridge sits a king called Cepheus. It is the goal of Aquarius to help the man by the side of the road get back to his kingdom as Cepheus, whence he came.
.......blackness engulfs him one last time.....
He awakens as the sun is setting again, marring his useless vision with rosy tints....
He grasps his water skin and finishes off what remained....his breath ratchets in the wind....
So vulnerable, fragile, helpless.....
Tears stream down his dusted cheeks...
A movement to the left draws his attention.....
A serpent stands poised, a black question mark illuminated in the fading sunset....
" SAD"? the serpent says...
" did god abandon you"?........

" no" I whisper, choking on every letter.....
Blackness engulfs me , I surrender........

I only saw direct reference to it once sometime in May in one these 'Nobody' threads.

Essentially.... it was said to be a a Celestial Bridge between dimensions...I believe spoken about in the Kabbalah but I am not certain about that.

It hit me particularly profoundly that day, being that I had named my 'Imagined' World...SeeRa...among other things...

I attempted to find the reference yesterday and was unsuccessful.

Instead, I was able to locate the star 'Sirrah' in the Alpha Andromedae constellation.

In the Arabic language the word sira or sirat comes from the verb sara, which means to travel or to be on a journey.

A person's sira is that person’s journey through life, or biography, encompassing their birth, events in their life, manners and characteristics, and their death.

In modern usage it may also refer to a person's resume. It is sometimes written as

"seera", "sirah" or "sirat", all meaning "life" or "journey".

Survivors of China twin quakes await supplies
Sunday, September 9, 2012

The earthquakes struck Friday in a region of small farms and mines near the border between Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, where some of China's poorest people live. Officials have said the death toll could rise because the quakes seriously damaged roads and communications, making it difficult to collect information.

The quakes toppled thousands of homes and sent boulders cascading across roads, and authorities evacuated more than 200,000 villagers.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency said a 2-year-old child died after being buried under a fallen wall as an aftershock struck Yunnan on Saturday night, becoming the 81st fatality from the quakes.

The first magnitude-5.6 quake struck just before 11:30 a.m. Friday and was followed by an equally strong quake shortly after noon. Though of moderate strength, the quakes were shallow, which often causes more damage than deeper ones.

There have been 279 aftershocks since Friday's earthquakes, said Zhang Junwei, spokesman of Yunnan's seismological bureau.

View from space: Anak Krakatau volcano eruption
Earth Trekker by Deanna Conners Sep 07, 2012

On September 4, 2012 NASA’s Earth Observing-1 satellite captured an image of lava flowing down the southeastern flank of the volcano Anak Krakatau, or “Child of Krakatau.” The fresh lava has extended the shoreline of the volcanic island by about 100 meters (330 feet), according to a report issued by NASA’s Earth Observatory.

The volcano is located just east of Jakarta, Indonesia in the Sundra Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra. In 1883, a cataclysmic explosion destroyed Krakatau’s caldera and killed 36,417 people.

It’s said that the sound created by the 1883 explosion was the loudest sound heard in modern history. People reported hearing the explosion from nearly 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometers) away.

Anak Krakatau is growing in height at an average rate of about 5 meters (16 feet) per year. Before the historic 1883 eruption, Anak Krakatau stood at approximately 813 meters (2667 feet) above sea level, according to the Global Volcanism Program.

In other words, the child is growing up!

Mt Fuji Volcano (Japan): increase of pressure in the magma chamber as a sign of an impending eruption
Sunday Sep 09, 2012 10:10 AM

Scientists have discovered signs of a possible imminent eruption of Japan's most famous volcano, Mount Fuji on Honshu. At least this is what many headlines in the press read.

According to an article of the Japanese news agency Kyodo the pressure in the magma chamber beneath the volcano Mt Fuji has drastically increased after the tsunami in March 2011 and a magnitude 6.4 quake near the volcano four days later, and is currently higher than it was before the last eruption in 1707 some 300 years ago.

Worrying in this context, however, is that the last eruption in 1707 was most likely influenced, if not triggered by an earthquake earlier.

"It's possible for Mount Fuji to erupt even several years after the March 2011 earthquake, therefore we need to be careful about the development," a spokesman for the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention said.

Nicaraguan volcano spews ash 3 miles high
Sept. 8, 2012

The San Cristobal volcano spewed out a column of ash and gas 2½ miles high Saturday

Residents reported hearing three powerful explosions in the volcano as the cloud began billowing skyward and ash drifted over nearby villages.

Nicaragua has been on alert since a strong earthquake shook neighboring Costa Rica on Wednesday and then a swarm of 17 minor tremors were recorded in the area around Lake Managua next to the capital the following day.

Giant 'balloon of magma' inflates under Santorini
September 9, 2012

A new survey suggests that the chamber of molten rock beneath Santorini's volcano expanded 10-20 million cubic metres – up to 15 times the size of London's Olympic Stadium – between January 2011 and April 2012.

The growth of this 'balloon' of magma has seen the surface of the island rise 8-14 centimetres during this period. The results come from an expedition, which used satellite radar images and Global Positioning System receivers (GPS) that can detect movements of the Earth's surface of just a few millimetres.

A report of the research appears in this week's Nature Geoscience. In January 2011, a series of small earthquakes began beneath the islands of Santorini. Most were so small they could only be detected with sensitive seismometers but it was the first sign of activity beneath the volcano to be detected for 25 years.

Following the earthquakes Michelle Parks, an Oxford University DPhil student, spotted signs of movement of the Earth's surface on Santorini in satellite radar images.

Oxford University undergraduate students then helped researchers complete a new survey of the island. During my field visits to Santorini in 2011, it became apparent that many of the locals were aware of a change in the behaviour of their volcano.

The tour guides, who visit the volcano several times a day, would update me on changes in the amount of strong smelling gas being released from the summit, or changes in the colour of the water in some of the bays around the islands. On one particular day in April 2011, two guides told me they had felt an earthquake while they were on the volcano and that the motion of the ground had actually made them jump.

Locals working in restaurants on the main island of Thera became aware of the increase in earthquake activity due to the vibration and clinking of glasses in their bars.'

Not so moist Mars: Clays may come from lava, not lakes
18:00 09 September 2012 by Lisa Grossman

Hunting for Martians may be a tougher task than predicted. Clays, long thought to be a sure sign of a warmer and wetter past on the Red Planet, could merely signal earlier volcanic activity

Clay layers found across Mars suggest that during the Noachian period, from about 4.2 billion to 3.5 billion years ago, the planet was warm enough to host liquid water – necessary for life as we know it.

Scientists thought Mars clays could have formed in one of two ways: through soil interacting with standing water on the surface, or from water bubbling up from below via hydrothermal vents.

Alain Meunier of the University of Poitiers in France has found that some Mars minerals from the Noachian period are a good chemical match to clays at the Mururoa Atoll in French Polynesia, which formed from cooling of water-rich lava.

What's more, these ancient Martian clays can be up to hundreds of metres thick, which is more likely to be associated with lava flows than soil interacting with water

...perhaps this explains why mainstream science can't tell the difference between shit and clay...or not...
