This evidence dovetails with aboriginal stories of tsunami events in recent centuries. Sydney's coastline also shows strong evidence of a huge tsunami in the 1500's, with evidence of a similar event at the same time in New Zealand. No one knows the cause. Even North West cape was scrubbed clean by a tsunami in recent centuries, which you can tell from looking at aerial photos of the North West Cape base. There's definate geological and topographical evidence that Australia's East and West coasts get whacked by tsunami's every two or three hundred years. None have been recorded in the European history of Oz because it's so short, but Australia will almost definately be hit by a tsunami within a two or three hundred years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20376749 I agree,a lot of places in Aus where you 'look up to mountains' as you drive along coastal areas and towns that have very sandy, soil? It scares me sometimes,I often think that one day they will be covered in water again. |
