This is definitely part of the problem! We are continuously boosting children's self esteem by rewarding them when they haven't put in real effort.

I have been ridiculed many times because I do not buy into this theory, yet look at todays young people who want it all now for nothing and without putting any effort in.

Watch today's youth. It's all about being high on crazy fun. They have no clue what to do with themselves if they aren't in the company of a dozen other like friends.

My daughter is an educater....got her degrees in these modern times. She raised her children in the manner the poster above speaks. Her 18 year old has been fired three times for calling off and not showing up. Her 15 year old has a chip on her shoulder and is continuously crying about "it's not fair" and has been hospitalized for severe depression. Now she lives for her anti-anxiety and anti-depressant drugs.

I love my grandaughters dearly, but they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag - they have no skills that enable them to help themselves.

Yes, in part it is the parents, but probably not the way you think. In the late seventies to middle eighties, Social Services created a drastic change in the upraising of our youth. You were no longer allowed to spank a bare butt that needed it. You were NOT allowed to punish a child no matter what. If you did, you got arrested for child abuse. Then it got to where the parents had no more rights of any control over the children. It was the State's right to raise the children. No one gets punished, no one is at fault, and no one was taught respect, honor, or ethics. That is why the youth of today expect a hand-out instead of earning off the sweat of their brow.
