I watched the conference yesterday and they said color photos will be shown a while after landing. B/W photos are going to be taken first.

I believe it is actually going to take the first HD pictures we have seen, just havent got them up and running yet

It has one...

This is not fibre optics we are using here, the pictures have to be sent almost half a billion miles across space from a relatively low powered rover upto a satellite and then sent to a satellite above earth and down to the control centre.

Of course they are going to send a black and white photo first.

The low res black and white cams are for hazard avoidance. Curiosity is actually the first rover to include true RGB color cameras and the ability to record video in HD.

video in HD?

wow I stand corrected but I bet it would take a while to upload it and with limited bandwidth people are just going to have to accept that these things will take time while more important data is sent back and forth.

hazard avoidance, yeah that makes sense as it would truly suck if they tried the more expensive kit and solar flare or some shit damaged it..

How is the UK Space Program going? lol

As usual, you all hate the USA and Americans 99.99% of the time,
but when the US accomplishes something no other country
has done or can do,
you all jump on the bandwagon and call it an accomplishment for all humanity.

Hypocrites.

They probably have to play with the color pictures in photoshop first to make the sky appear red, like they've done with all the other photos they've previously released.
In reality the sky looks blue but they don't want you to see that.

A transparent cover is still on the lens. They plan to take the cover off in a week or so.

I cannot wait until the cover comes off. I want to see the true colors.
