UK & France Deploying Assault Ships & Carriers! US Won’t Rule Out Syria No-Fly Zone - Brennan Touts US Aid to Syrian Rebels Speaking before the Council on Foreign Relations, top Obama aide John Brennan defended the Obama Administration’s aide to Syrian rebels, saying it was growing all the time and that the administration was careful not to let it go to the al-Qaeda affiliated part of the rebels. Brennan insisted that President Obama has never ruled out using a “no-fly zone” in Syria, but it would seemingly be difficult to convince the UN to back the move after the way it was used in Libya. Russia and China have both opposed several resolutions on the Syrian civil war, fearing the US would use them as an excuse to invade. [link to news.antiwar.com] |

UK & France Deploying Assault Ships & Carriers! Sarkozy wants to show he's more active and resolute than F. Hollande. He was proud of his international "aura" (Lybia, Georgia...) and by taking the Syria's crisis in hands, he hopes that Hollande will look indecisive, weak. |

UK & France Deploying Assault Ships & Carriers! Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the spearhead of last year’s campaign to oust Muammar Gaddafi, has called for rapid international action on Syria, comparing the current crisis with the situation in Libya. Quoting: DoorBert Sarkozy has spoken with the Syrian opposition leader, Abdulbaset Sieda, and both agreed there is a need for foreign intervention in Syria in order to stop the ongoing crisis. “They noted a total convergence in their views on the seriousness of the Syrian crisis as well as the need for rapid action by the international community to avoid massacres,” said a statement signed by Sarkozy and Sieda, the president of the Istanbul-based Syrian National Council. “They agreed that there are great similarities with the Libyan crisis,” said the statement. UK & France Deploying Assault Ships & Carriers! A source with contacts within the FSA maintains that there are Free Syrian Army units still in Saleh el Dine [link to maps.google.com] Confirms other reports. Clearly, however, most of the units have repositioned. Also, earlier reports that the FSA had withdrawn from Bustan al Qasr (map) appear to be false. This makes sense, as it is a central area, one not directly threatened by regime troops (yet), and one that has been important to the FSA siege of the city's citadel, a massive fortress where Assad forces have been nearly surrounded for over a week. But Saleh el Dine is just a part of the city of Aleppo. Other parts in the center and east of the city have been heavily bombarded today, but are not directly threatened by regime soldiers. As of now, it is likely that 50-70% of the city remains in at least tentative FSA control. [link to www.enduringamerica.com] |
