What if Jesus would have taken the Devils Offer? by Apollo
What if Jesus would have taken the Devils Offer?
by Apollo

A intriguing question.. I want you all to think about what would have happened if Jesus took the Devils offer of all the Kingdoms of the world. He turned it down btw. But what if he took up the offer? What would life have been like for us? This isnt meant to slander Christianity , nor Judaism ( I am not implying they are the devil ) but to later highlight the fact that in Judaism, the Messiah is expected to be a actual Priest King who would change peoples lives. Jesus was a pacifist, peacemaker and honorably could not nor would not be a warrior King. Violence would have had to be used to free countries from occupation that they did not want. In Jesus time. Israel was a Roman Occupation.

QOUTE: By the time of Jesus' birth, the Romans had established a two-tiered system of government consisting of Roman overseers and Jewish leaders who exercised control in the name of Rome. This was the system of power in which the family of Herod the Great grew to prominence. Although half-jewish people, the Herodian family was detested by the Jewish people for its tyrannical rule and also because of its key role in selling out the Jewish heritage to a foreign power. One of Herod's sons, Archelaus, was so brutal in his exercise of power in Jerusalem, that Rome replaced him with one of its own governors, Pontius Pilate, who was to play a significant role in the crucifixion of Jesus. Another of the sons, Herod Antipas, was responsible for the beheading of John the Baptist. It was the same Antipas who is accredited with the mocking of Jesus at his pre-crucifixion trial. (END QOUTE) [link to dlibrary.acu.edu.au]

Matthew 4:8,9

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

What a wonderful and benevolent government Jesus could have set up. How exemplary justice would have been. Maybe there would have been Habitat projects all over Israel for anyone who needed a home. And the proud, the rich, and the powerful could not have dominated their fellow citizens. As a twentieth-century governor and president I would have had a perfect pattern to follow. I could have pointed to the Bible and told other government leaders, "This is what Jesus did 2000 years ago in government. Why don't we do the same?" .

Knowing that this a metaphor to begin with...you missed the point. The whole point is to show US what our temptation would be like. God was never even goofily tempted by the "devil" Such a circumstance is impossible. The "devil" evens know this. Interesting thoughts though. Judged already coming in this place...how silly to think..Jesus just might have..lol.

Its a good question ! I mean seriously, first off put yourself in the perspective of a Jewish household in the AD time before the Roman seige of Jerusalem. Herod had done massive building projects, including renovation of the third temple and life in Jerusalem wasnt too bad.. But then again no prophecy of Messiah is fully fulfilled.

Heres a qoute that will breeze us thru a background on a history refresher..

Like parents everywhere, the Romans were generally content to provide services and political stability to those they ruled in return for relative peace. The kings and governors they placed over Israel knew this, but in their greed and cultural unawareness (or apathy), they managed to frequently insult the jewish people. Several times the local Roman authorities quelled riots and protests with massacres. After a long, destructive civil war between the Jewish Zealots and the Roman authorities, four Legions, led by Titus the Roman General, besieged Jerusalem and burned down the temple in 70 AD. As the temple burned, the gold and silver ornamentation melted and seeped between the cracks in the stone. In their zeal for a stipend, the Roman soldiers took the temple apart, stone by stone, fulfilling Jesus’ prophesy in Matthew 24:1-3. The Jewish people were scattered into the Diaspora, and did not return en masse to Palestine until after World War II. The Temple Mount, where Herod’s temple stood, is now home to the Islamic mosque Dome of the Rock. The Wailing Wall stands to the southwest of the mosque and north of an Islamic Museum. The temple will not be rebuilt until the end times.

Jesus died for our sins, so that we borned sinners, have the potential to have our sins forgiven, and to live forever in heaven.

This is still a potential, due to our freewill.

If Jesus did accept the offer, and then never died for us. Every single human, despite your good works, would be cast into hellfire, for all eternity, as punishment for our sins, that could never be forgiven, or washed away by the blood and sacrifice of Jesus.

We all want peace, nice homes, good food, future for our families. Unfortunately that was cut off from thousands of Jewish families in 70 AD. It was so bad that a Roman soldier described rivers of blood flowing down the streets..

But whats wrong with wanting real leadership here and now?

The New World of the United States has vastly accomplished peace and security for its citizens and its poor.

We have the clothing and food and shelter that God has promised us, do we not?

Of course lawlessness is on the increase and law must be restored to its rightful capacity.. Weve had it so good that weve become lenient in many matters of crime amongst our citizens.

Well, hopefully, you realize that wasn't even possible? However, to entertain your question, the answer to that is very simple.
This would've spelled victory for the Devil, and would all be doomed to damnation. Death would abound.

Paul's assertion in 1 Corinthians 15:17-19, would have an even more ominous meaning:

17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
