I grew up in working class/poor neighborhoods, and am familiar with folks like this. This shit is just sad. Life's a bitch.

Like most people I drink alcohol, have smoked weed and still do on occasion, and have never been addicted like these people. I've never binged on anything, not even food. I've never understood what causes some people to become so badly 'addicted'. There's got to be some powerful genetic component, but most have also had very hard lives, an many have had very abusive childhoods. Some people can get over bad childhood, even where they were molested and beaten, some can't. And of course many people like this have serious mental illnesses.
