Pinned.. Because this has catastrophic possibilities and is new info in regards to sinkhole status..

Actually this 100 hiroshima thing has been around for like 3 days..
But yeah, its important and should be pinned ^^

5* and pin suggestion.

I knew about the "gas-hole" but not about the evacuation.

If that thing blows I wonder what impact (if any) it might have on the New Madrid?

A possible breach of a butane-filled well 1500 feet from Bayou Corne's sinkhole, the size of three football fields, is so "very serious," it has Assumption Parish sheriff and local residents ordered to evacuate worried about a catastrophic explosion, one according to scientists in an Examiner investigation, would be in the range of one and a half B83 thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs, the most powerful United States weapons in active service......

And they've been pumping the fucker (sinkhole well) full of radioactive waste for 2 years!!!

"The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had quietly permitted Texas Brine Company LLC to pump radioactive waste into its now failing cavern near the sinkhole DNR also hid documents showing that cavern may have had problems since 2010."

Multiple government agencies looking into 'gas bubbles' in Assumption Parish
July 2012
Bayou Corne, La (NBC33) — Though there is still no word on where methane gas bubbles are coming from in Assumption Parish, the United States Geological Survey says they've installed devices to help figure it out.

The bubbles have been showing up in the Bayou Corne area for almost two months; some in the area have said they've felt tremors.

So, the USGS installed devices that will help them pinpoint where the tremors are coming from. The devices will collect readings for at least the next four months.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says they're also in the area, and they say there's no concern of anything igniting.

“Assumption Parish has asked DEQ to come down there to collect data and to do a hazard assessment,” stated Chris Piehler with Louisiana DEQ. “So far, we have found no reason for anyone to be concerned about any threats, hazards or pollution.”

A second community meeting was held on the gas bubbles issue just last week in Bayou Corne.

Is it methane or butane? Are they trying to drill another well and suck it out...what is being done other than monitoring?

Aug 10 2012..
Authorities enacted a mandatory evacuation for between 100 and150 homes in the area, but most people have chosen to stay, according to the Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness. If any of the dangers seem to become more imminent, the order will be escalated to a forced evacuation.

In the days after the sinkhole opened up on Aug. 3, nearby Highway 70 was closed down because officials discovered that the sinkhole caused a 36-inch natural gas pipeline to bend and feared the possibility of an explosion, according to ABC News' Baton Rouge affiliate WBRZ.

"That's why the mandatory evacuation is going to stay on, because there is a risk for explosion," John Boudreaux of from Assumption Parish Emergency Preparedness said at a meeting with residents on Tuesday, WBRZ reported.

Gov. Bobby Jindal issued a declaration of emergency allowing the Governor's Office of Homeland Security to assist in the efforts if necessary.

"This is extremely serious and it's been going on for too long to still be at this point," Kim Torres, spokeswoman for the Office of Emergency Preparedness, told ABCNews.com today. "The people are very aware of how serious this is."

This is all centered in an area labeled as "an oil refinery haven in the heart of the nation's Cancer Alley, is crisscrossed with oil and gas pipelines"..

Oh great.. Just fucking great.. And if this happens, it's also going to ram energy into the already created hole, salt dome, etc..

So now, FINALLY, we have the possibility of what Matt Simmons left us with, of the mega-methane explosion.. Except for instead of it happening mid-ocean, it's happen inland and due to a separate failed rig.

I'd say a lot more than just the parish needs to GTFO, if this is the case..

So basically, if the sinkhole expands, or causes a pipeline to break and start a fire (think california) anywhere near that methane cave, it's going to blow the literal fuck out of everything over there, possibly with more chain reactions due to salt domes, refineries, pipelines, oil reserves, etc..

For it to explode, you still need the right mix of butane and oxygen. As long as the O2 is excluded it should not blow. ??
