Hey, the air in any big city is as least as poisoned as cigarette smoke, so I think the whole anti-smoking thing is rather hypocrite.

When I started smoking, nearly forty years ago, cigarettes were 25 cents a pack. The last pack of cigarettes I bought was nearly $4.50 a pack. I smoked my last cigarette about six years ago. I still get a desire for one, but my desire is not as strong as my resolve.

Yeah, 'Little Cigars' or 'Filtered Cigars' are really cigarettes, just a little heavier and wrapped in tobacco sheet by-product as opposed to paper. This allows them to get through a loop hole in the cigarette tax laws, meaning they are taxed at a FAR LOWER rate than 'cigarettes'. You can get them in Boston @ $2.-2.50/pack, you can buy them online @ $10-15./carton from Indian reservations in upstate NY.

'Cigarettes' here [Massachusetts] have to be at least, by state law, something like $5.80/pack, and you'll see store signs everywhere saying they charge the lowest legal rate for cigarettes. I'm talking generic like Marverick, etc. Some well known brands are pretty cheap, like Pall Malls [$6-6.50/pack], more foo-foo and hip brands like Dunhill, Nat Sherman, American Spirit are $8-10./pack.

rather than stick my nose in the tailpipe, I use recirculated cabin air with a portable hepa filter during my commute. Like a same person.

But if my morning drive was a serious risk to my health, the LAST thing I'd do id try to DOUBLE IT. Especially cause that stuff is usually multiplactive, not just additive.

And just FYI, only diesel fumes are as dangerous as cigarette smoke.

The air outside, even in most big cities, isn't remotely as dirty as it was 40 plus years ago. In fact, it's generally quite clean, especially along the coast. Inland cities like Atlanta, Dallas, even Denver, or SoCal where smog can be trapped in by big mountains, the air can be a lot dirtier.

The real dirty air is found INDOORS, in office buildings, industrial buildings, malls, houses with central air on all the time, even hospitals and cars/suvs/trucks. Most people get URI [upper respiratory infections] get it from poor quality indoor air, not from outdoor air. In general, outdoor air is A LOT cleaner, even in cities, than indoor air.

I don't smoke anymore, but I've been addicted to Nicorette gum for way too long, and the gum is cheaper than the smokes. It didn't used to be that way.

there are HEPA masks for cyclists. People wear them here. They don't look like Fukshima gas masks. Look up neoprene biker hepa masks.
