Has anyone ever had swollen gums/gingivitis?
I'm going through that right now.

Started about Aug 23 and after I noticed some really details I check into the emergency on Aug 26 around 200 am.

Antibiotics haven't really shown any improvement yet. Can't sleep that's why I'm typing this. First thing tomorrow morning going to a dentist.

A little worried.

Re: Has anyone ever had swollen gums/gingivitis?
you have to brush your gums. this is long term.

antibiotics should help. maybe change the type of antibiotic. you can get an antibiotic shot if it really gets bad.

gargle with listerine. also warm salt water, not too much salt. if it burns just use water. warm water.

if you have a spot that develops sometimes I would use chapstick and then put it on my finger and then apply it to the spot. you can also use vasiline.

Rinsing / swishing with undiluted hydrogen peroxide 3 times a day really helps heal the gums. Make sure to brush and floss first to remove bits of debris at the gum line. You really want the HP to get into the gaps and pockets at the base of your teeth.

Good luck at the dentist...I know what they are going to recommend. Root scaling and planing. Been there done that! :(

Hope you have good insurance! I did and it still cost me $700 to be tortured and have months and months of discomfort!

If the dentist scrapes or cuts the gums it's more like years waiting for the gums to heal. Definitely, Hydrogen Peroxide and get some MMS for mouth use. Good Luck in what ever course you take.

start oil pulling... swish coconut oil in your mouth in the morning on empty stomach for 20 minutes ... it has to be 20 minutes or more .... it does wonders

it's hard at first but gets easier ..i could do it for hours if i had too now :)

Are you male or female?

I had this really bad right after a miscarriage, and the dentist said it was from hormones?? Whatever, just a dental cleaning, antibiotic RINSE along the gumline, and flouride fixed it.

But until then, you can never go wrong with warm saltwater or Listerine swishes a few times a day. At least it would kill any bacteria that are hiding out in those comfy, puffed-up gums.

Re: Has anyone ever had swollen gums/gingivitis?
You need to have your teeth cleaned by a dental assistant regularly. You also need to take a good vitamin and mineral supplement, eat wholesome foods and you clean your teeth and use floss on a regular basis. Anti-biotics do very little in this. Hygiene.

Re: Has anyone ever had swollen gums/gingivitis?
Do NOT use peroxide, not even cut by 3 parts water.

If you are in pain that means your roots, which have little porous holes at the gumline lead straight to your nerve endings and you will see stars it will hurt so badly using peroxide.

Have the dentist give you a particular rinse to use at the outset and use it until you have your inflamed gums under control.

Once under control then you can experiment with oil pulling and the like. But get it under control first and be diligent about brushing and rinsing with a natural antibacterial like Myrrh extract solution and Co-Q10.
Most systemic antibiotics won't help the problem.

I knew a dentist who people saw as last resort before dentures, who did the scraping and foiling and all that.
He said from what he's seen he believes plaque actually protects teeth to some degree, because after removing it most of his patients did go on to lose their teeth anyway.

Best of luck, OP!

Two drops of clove oil in a small amount of olive oil and rub it on the sore area.
And, or, swish your mouth out with liquid silver.
Works every time.

I would have to agree, although water, alcohol/listerine, & hydrogen peroxide also have benefits. Multiple rinses with multiple types of solvents throught the day ensures the most complete cleaning, I also use colloidal silver for trouble spots, applied with dental brush used for bridgework.

I noticed if it was the bottom front , they need the tarter scraped off. The tarter was irritating the gums.
Also get some colloidal silver and swish it around your mouth every day, but you will need good antibiotic to start off with now.

5 stars to neutralize the 1 star bandit...
Btw. I'd also go with natural remedies OP.
Actually -joke aside- ginger may do good for it. Also Swedish Bitter. Rinse with cold pressed olive oil first thing in the morning - also works.

One more thing: get one of those thin little "in-between" tooth brushes, and dip it into toothpaste or mouth-rinse fluid and clean thorougly

A friend and I have had great results with oil pulling. I know it sounds horrible. It took me months to even try it. I use coconut oil now. The problem is totally vanished for myself and the friend who told me about it. I would suggest googling oil pulling to find out more.

Get 500MG fishmox (its the same thing as ammoxicillain) do a course of 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg in the evening (12 hours apart) for ten days.

No less, no more. Do not drink milk - milk that is cooked in foods is iffy, depending on how much milk there is. Milk in baked goods is ok.

Cheese is iffy, depends on the cheese.

This will cure the infection TEMPORARILY. The infection will return, again and again and again.

The problem is that the gums against the teeth are not a tight seal. Food particles get lodged at the gum and this allows bacteria to grow.

Those bacteria are small enough to 'swim' down between gum and tooth to infest the gum and the tooth root.

The myth is that more brushing will prevent this from happening. Truth is that more people are prone to 'weak' gums - meaning due to genetics the space between gum and tooth is a tad more open, thus allowing more bacteria to flow from mouth to root.

While some brushing and use of floss removes the debris, it does nothing to close up the gum gap.

Mouth gargles (mouthwash) will help more than more brushing as it kills the germs in the mouth, but the reality is that none kills all the germs.

Salt water gargle/swish your mouth three times a day. That would be about 1/2 tsp salt to 1/4 cup of water - or two mouthfuls of water.

Do this everyday for a year after the infection. It takes about a year for the gums to fully recover.

Don't eat things like popcorn where the hull can get lodged between tooth and gum. Use plackers [link to www.plackers.com] over floss. More often than not using floss leads to 'sawing' which pulls the gum away from tooth. Not really good if you are getting gum infections.

A deep cleaning will most likely be in order, this is where the dentist will dig down between gum and tooth to scrape out at much stuff as possible. Now days they inject antibiotic gel between gum and tooth to apply antibiotics directly to the infection.

During the time you have the gel in your teeth, you will not floss and you will not use salt as a gargle/mouthwash. About a week.

Afterwards, when the dentist tells you to start flossing again, floss and follow with the salt water swish, salt kills bacteria more effectively than alcohols in the mouth.

Don't rinse with clean water - yeah your mouth will taste salty for a while, but that is a good thing.

Re: Has anyone ever had swollen gums/gingivitis?
I highly recommend using 2 tablespoons of peroxide in 1/4 cup of water. Swish in your mouth for 20 seconds, spit it out, and do it again, a second time, before bed, every other night.

DO NOT swallow this liquid, just spit it out.

This does wonders for the gums and kills infection, too.
