Lop 'em off just above the middle knuckle and hit the stub with a hot iron to seal things off nicely. Be sure to leave a small nub. If you lop 'em off flush it will have an adverse effect on your balance. Good luck. Let us know how you make out. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 898 United States 01/08/2006 12:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Got the same shit from going to a cheap pedicurist years ago. You're right NOT to go on lamisel or any other liver killing drug the "doctor" advises. Over the years I've tried everything....nothing works. If you're female, just keep them trimmed short and use polish to cover it up. The crap is really contagious so don't use other people's shoes or socks and don't let them wear yours. I admit I wasn't very diligent about using topical 'cures' but I've been advised that tea tree oil works over about a year's time if you use it at least twice a day. Welcome to the club. |

Soak feet in a tub of horticultural corn meal and warm water. Horticultural corn meal has the whole corn grain, unlike corn meal we eat, and apparently has great anti-fungal properties for plants and feet. ;) |

Intensity User ID: 52193 United States 01/08/2006 01:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | currently I am: 1) wearing a very 'breathable' shoe - Soloman Techamphibs - as fungus is very hard to get rid of if your feet ar in a a dark, warm, and moist environment all day like most of us - you can get the best deal on these shoes a zappos.com 2) full strength oregano oil and tea tree oil 2 x a day and anti-gungal powder in my sox. 3)using a bastard file to file my nail very thin so the chemical can more easily reach the infection which sequsters itself underneath the nail in the nail bed or cuticle. Made a mistake a few years back that nearly cost me a foot. DO NOT USE DMSO (DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE). When you add it to any chemcal or agent it is a very effective carrier and will take whater it is mixed with deep into your skin. I hade small cuts in the areas around my toes and unfortunately DMSO will also carry bacteria deep into your flesh (to the bone in my case) Spent 9 days in the hospital with an MSRA infection that was very nasty - operated 2 times, the second time pretty much cutting my foot halfway down the center. THE BEST thing I have found is called 'Chelodonium Majus', pure extract. I have only found this in Russua and cannot find a good source of PURE oil on the net. The authorities will not allow my inlaws to send it in the mail from Russia so I am trying to find other ways to get this. BRW - the infection is mostly under control and gone from all except my big toes - still working on it. Hope this helps and tell me if you can find a good source of pure Chelodonium Majus. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 61173 United States 01/08/2006 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You might try this? It works for athlete's foot, so why not nail fungus? Got this off another website: I was plagued for years with fever blisters, then finally used the same stuff I'd been using for athlete's foot and it worked - couldn't believe it took me so long to figure it out. Get a bottle of alcohol, add one of those little green bottles of campho-phenique and 30 cheap, uncoated aspirin. Shake well before applying. For fever blisters I use a q-tip being careful to only hit the bad spot. For the athlete's foot, I soak cotton balls with the stuff and put them inbetween my toes for about 20 minutes - maybe 2 or 3 days straight just be sure. The stuff also works for spider bites that get icky. (You might try wrapping the toes after application. Worth a try when all else fails.) . |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 21741 United States 01/08/2006 02:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | try whatever seems to be working like 5 times a day instead of two times. then when it looks like it is healing back off a little to 4 times a day until you are only treating it once a day. if it were me, i would soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and leave it on toenail for ten minutes then put the vapo rub on it and then wear sandals if you can or whenever you can. the 5 or more times a day will make the difference. also take some acidophilus or have one yogurt a day. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1373 United States 01/08/2006 02:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ---------------------- I tried lamisil, and it worked great. (And my liver is just fine.) There is a slight risk of liver problems with lamisil, just as there is with tylenol. You have to decide whether the benefit is worth the risk. There is one thing that you definitely have to be aware of with lamisil. There is a risk of ingrown toenails as the drug takes effect, so you should visit a podiatrist if it looks like you are getting one. As for all of the other cures, I think that "nothing works" pretty much sums it up. So, you basically have to decide if getting rid of the fungus is worth the slight risk associated with lamisil. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1889 United States 01/08/2006 02:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you may need some intestinal cleansing and cleaner foods that will adjust the ph. like when your pools ph gets out of balance it starts growing stuff.. algae, fungus, whatever. drink loads of water, steer clear of processed food stuffs, eat lots of foods god gave you like fruits and veggies and meat(plain, no buns,no fries with that). garlic is a good antibiotic but i think its more a preventative kind of thing, i dont think its super effective on accute infections, if its that bad go to the doctor. im sure there is a cream. over the counter miconazole should do the trick shouldnt it? id think. neosporin has an athletes foot cream with that in it(*same as micatin, i just love neosporin, the regular works wonders on my cuts ect) |
