Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're completely wrong there. Teachers are incredibly overworked and underpaid. I don't know anything specifically about the Chicago situation, but most teachers make about $50 grand a year and while the KIDS have lots of holidays, the teachers are usually still in the classroom grading papers or getting ready for the next time the kids will be in. They have to deal with so much more than just putting out a syllabus and teaching a few pages of books. They are extremely hard-working, disciplined and devoted to our kids. The vast majority of teachers do it for the love of teaching and our children, NOT for the big pay check. How many people do you know that have Master's Degrees and make $50 grand a year? In addition, teachers today face drugs, disciplinary issues, dysfunctional households and anger and stress issues that were unheard of even ten years ago. Every teacher we have is a gift and should be treated as such.

Then why don't they keep the kids in school until 5:00 like most working adults instead of giving them homework for the parents to take over teaching them and doing their job for them? Homework just pushes a teachers job off on the parents...

I understand the concept of homework in that they want the kids to keep working and practice it at home, but I have to agree with you somewhat on that one. My kids are so tired when they get home after a full day that it takes everything I can to get them fed, bathed and ready for bed. Who has time for homework then?

Yet if they don't do it they fail...my kids have football and jobs after school...and still make straight A's...homework just makes me feel like teachers are lazy...they should give the students their personal phone number so they can answer questions at home...

Education needs a complete overhaul. We are using a system today that worked for civilizations hundreds of years ago.

With social media and technology today, kids see school as a popularity contest and most are not even the slightest bit interested in learning.

I'm not begging for some big government reform, I'm just suggesting we start looking for a more efficient system.

If the strike is not resolved by end of October, you can bet race riot could happen in Chicago, since they would have too many bored kids with nothing to do during school-hours.

The troubled culture in some areas of Chicago and other cities has more to do with a lack of moral standards and the breakdown of the family union than any economic factors. American history is full of stories of poor families that have embraced public education and proudly watched their children take advantage of their opportunities to earn a better life.

It's about time you MORONS woke up. They are being offered 4% a year for four years. In addition they probably are required to pay a larger % of their healthcare and retirement. The net result is LESS money being taken home in the finality. Given the current rate of inflation they then become double losers. The other issue and probably the driving one is EVALUATION. I once listened to a fella from Wisconsin who owned a very successful ice cream company. The point he made is that his success depended on the ingredients going into the product produced. They bought only the best and made sure their manufacturing process was matched with them and this is what he attributed his success too. Using this concept these teachers have no control over the raw materials sent to them. What walks through that door is what they get. They have no control over the process by which they are to accomplish their goal. They have no control over the forces which govern the supposed product they are to put out. In short they for the most part do the best they can with what they presented with. Although reading most of your MORONIC posts it is clear there has been mass failure. Perhaps you should sit down and analyze the REAL reasons for your failure rather than looking for someone or something to blame. Just sayin.........

Private employees can make whatever deal they want but their unions should not be unduly protected.

SO WHAT? JOIN THE CROWD! They are not being fired, which has happened to a lot of people who did nothing wrong.

Speaking of which, they want to be EVALUATED solely on things which they can control, in a way they can control. Well guess what, nobody else gets that. You get a bad boss, China makes the product cheaper, your boss decides to hire an H1B to replace you, a major customer leaves ... you get fired. That's how the world works these days UNLESS YOU'RE A TEACHER.

That argument about evaluations shows how sick the situation is. They must be exposed to the vagaries of the market, then they would stop acting like little kings and queens. They could be replaced by better, cheaper people. That should not be negotiable, it isn't for anyone else.

Once all Unions collapse, all the working stiffs will see their pay collapse. The dumb-asses don't know that their pay is HIGHER because the Unions set the pay bar. The owners and some of their cronies always just put the money in THEIR pockets.

Start looking for your used single-wide trailer to raise your families in non-union tards.
