The company said Tuesday that Pemex employees staff the center, but said it was not immediately clear whether those killed were Pemex employees. Nor did the company immediately offer the possible cause of the fire.

Pipelines carrying gasoline and diesel in Mexico are frequently tapped by thieves looking to steal oil products.

At least 10 people were killed on Tuesday when a fire broke out at a gas-receiving plant operated by Pemex in the state of Tamaulipas in northern Mexico.
The government-controlled oil company said in a statement that the fire started around 10:45 am local time and burned for roughly two hours before it was extinguished.

Early reports said four people had been injured in the blaze. It was not clear if they were among the dead. Local media reported the number of injured could exceed 40, but that number could not be confirmed.
