From the sounds of things you know more than I do. My question has more to do with could the United States stay neutral in the event it comes to blows. This article in Bloomberg tonight seems to provide us with a possible answer. |

Why is China making noise now after all these years ? I am curious about something. You say that these islands were given to Japan by the US... Why does every article I read on this subject talk about them recently purchasing the islands but not one article I have read bothers to mention who they were purchased from.... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15788170 United States 09/21/2012 12:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, say China and Japan DID throw down... what happens to all those companies that took their jobs offshore to China? They wouldn't exactly be able to continue operating there AND shipping their products back here. India would most likely become involved, too, should the region become destabilized. So... that's one way to force corporations that wish to continue business within the US BACK to the US, eh? Since Japan's polluted as hell from Fukishima, maybe they're just a piece to be sacrificed now? Pure speculation based on a simple thought experiment. |

"The U.S. doesn’t take a position on the sovereignty of the islands" The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine. |

If it belongs to japs why japs need Merikans give it to them? Fuck japs and fuck merikans. They have not rights to give and receive what is not belongs to them. Even japs own maps in 1785 and 1877 did not mark the island as theirs. They even marked it as it belong to chinese. |

You have no idea what you're talking about. Part of Japan's deal to surrender required them to give back all territories, they took during WWII, back to their original countries. However, later on the US and Japan made backroom deals without consultation of other countries involved and the US unilaterally gave the Japanese the Islands in the process. China at the time couldn't do anything about it. China and Taiwan has never at anytime ceded sovereignty of the islands to Japan. You want to know why there are no mass protests in Japan over China encroaching on supposed Japanese waters? Well that's because every damn Jap knows those islands are stolen property but they think we'll keep our mouths shut and not say this is the case. Seems everyone on GLP is so blinded by their China hate that they willingly want to believe China are the Bogeymen. Be careful of what you wish for. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 22162156 United States 09/21/2012 12:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here is great history article. The most interesting evidence is emerging from old Japanese government documents and suggests that Japan in effect stole the islands from China in 1895 as booty of war. Collectively, these official documents leave no doubt that the Meiji government did not base its occupation of the islands following “on-site surveys time and again,” but instead annexed them as booty of war. This is the inconvenient truth that the Japanese government has conveniently evaded." The Inconvenient Truth Behind the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands [link to kristof.blogs.nytimes.com] |

Japan's down hard anyway, in many ways, they're already screwed. But what would be the outcome and ramifications of throwing down with China if they started it? There's a much deeper game being played here. Quoting: Bea Nameless ^^THIS^^ |

USA will have to defend all of them. Taiwan too. It won't be a war for the rocks in the sea, but for the whole East Asia. |
