i just wept over watching a moth die
it had landed in some water and one of its wings was practically destroyed. it was making a pathetic attempt to fly, batting its wings and slowly crawling along. i put my finger in front of it and it crawled onto it, and it seemed to look at me as if asking for help, then it fell to the ground and stopped moving. tears formed in my eyes and i began to weep.

is it a sign of an underlying mental issue to have such strong emotions over an insect?

It probably means you have compassion for all living things and don't like to see things suffer.
Or you are just depressed, but I'm thinking the first one.

I see nothing wrong with this. This world is a bay of tears. Suffering is everywhere. You just tapped in to a small moment of it. There are horrific examples going on every second.

Depression my @ass.

The bay of tears. If you are weeping over the suffering it just means your heart is not dead yet. Congratulations.

sometimes when you watch something so helpless and struggling til it perishes is a sad thing. I probably would have cried too. No it does not mean you are depressed. You are just expressing something sad...

I think this is exceptional.

Its pure compassion for a living creature.
Pretty rare to express this emotion to a public venue, but I am glad you did.

Maybe you are just highly sensitive right now. But I don't think there is anything wrong with you. In fact, I think it is refreshing to see such compassion. Too many people don't see the beauty or the sadness in this world.

Women have a tendency (especially during "those days" of the month) to be over emotional - but nothing is wrong with showing compassion, OP. It shows you have a heart!

Ignore the "depress-tards" who posted on here - they wouldn't know "compassion" if it popped 'em in the schnoze!

However, if you consistently feel weepy or can't function due to emotions like this, you may want to just see if everything is alright and visit your doctor, okay?

But I do understand - and here's a big {{{hug}}}.

i had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago, over some dead tomato hook worms that had fallen into my bilge and drowned after devouring my tomato plants. never happened to me before and i wasn't depressed. i think it's because of becoming more sensitive, and conscious. through your heart.

It probably had water in it's respiratory system...or maybe it panicked and died from that?
I scared the shit out a large roach the other day. It looked up at me and OBVIOUSLY SCREAMED IN UTTER HORROR! LOL.. It's body sort of bent up and it's front legs went crazy and it looked like a human screaming in terror!

Literally this would have been the caption-> screamscreamscreamscreamscreamscreamscream

It traveled frantically about one foot with this body language shooting out in all directions screamscreamscreamscream and completely had a heart attack or something and DIED ON THE SPOT! LOLOLOL
