I just came across this, yeah, it has probably already been posted before but I thought it worth a thread. Apparently Israel also has something similiar! Extras interestingly is the article's mention that if the iris scan or fingerprint biometric is stolen/compromised as has been proven to be possible -- what do you do then--- you can reassign a new pin number to a person's account but you can't give them a new iris or fingerprint!! [ link to www.eff.org (secure)] September 27, 2012 India's Gargantuan Biometric Database Raises Big Questions The government of India has amassed a database of 200 million Indian residents' digital fingerprints, iris scans, facial photographs, names, addresses and birthdates... is only a drop in the bucket... The Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI)... goal of capturing and storing this personal and biometric information for each and every one of India's 1.2 billion residents.... that would facilitate everything from banking transactions to the purchase of goods and services, which could make it hard for individuals to opt out without getting left behind.... |
