Good Lord, the grasp of accurate History on this thread is appalling. Does ANYONE here realize that the Civil War was fought over the North not wanting to pay the price that cotton was bringing? It was an economic war brought about by the North against the South, one in which the north used the Federal government to wage price controls on their behalf in order to force the south to sell their product to the north at a reduced price.

You're right. I was going to upgrade you myself but have had problems with doing that in the past. The person kept getting upgraded for several months and it was a mess trying to get it to stop once it started.

Robert E lee was one of the greatest military minds of the last 300 years. He was loyal to his state. Some biographies mention that his sympathies were more in line with the north but uttered some (I wont quote anything) phrase about virginia being his home so his primary sympathies as well as his loyalties as a military man lied there.

Look I am from the south, I like southern culture. The naming of the base is not about that however. Its simply about a great military mind. Same thing with the naming of many things after the man.

You do realize that before the civil war, a lot of the Generals on both sides fought together in the Mexican American War. He is a major part of American Military history.
