They were able to ping my daughers phone the night she went missing. However, they told me the signal could be anywhere within a 1/2 mile radius of the nearest tower. I went to the tower & I knew exactly where she was.

Todays sound programs are awesome, it's not that hard for these programs to take out the important part of the sounds and filter away all the noise. So if needed the butt calls.

Check with the sounds guys you know they will tell you.
Very advanced software nowadays and Alphabet organisations deffo have automated software for that type of stuff.

And an appalling amount of them are driving friggin cars while doing it. My job is an on the road job, and I see it way too often.
CB operators like myself have no problem, as we don't need to divert from the road at all to operate safely. (And CB operators are smarter than most, because they held onto their CBs, knowing how vital a comm they really are. But I digress.) With handheld phones and texting, people are mislead to think that they can use these things while driving, and it's injuring and killing people and 'driving' up insurance costs. Yee-ha.

other than that you are correct cell phones are used to track people, many a criminal have been busted via their phone. When the system is built better it will be like in the dystopian movies where they will have all the face recognition, phone, rfid in clothing etc. revealing the person where ever they go.

It's not fully built yet the system but they are getting there.

I'm surprised it went that quickly. Contrary to belief, public safety does not have access to your phone all the time. When I dispatched for the Sheriff's Office, we had to wait for an affidavit to be sent from the call carrier, it then had to be signed by someone high up in the chain of command and then sent back to the cell carrier. Then, and only then, were we able to get the coordinates and that was based on either triangulation between at least three cell towers or GPS. In either case, it doesn't do anyone much good when you're in a building because GPS doesn't do well inside and the carrier would have to resort to triangulation which isn't very accurate.

Read the updates and never auto update or update without reading what they changed. The lastest Google maps and I think Google Books, update said something to the effect that you were giving permission for the phone to listen when and even when not in a phone conversation and to view your pictures and view through the camera.

Another "dark side," is all too evident. When anyone asks me "why don't you have a cell phone?" I tell them two words, "brain cancer." People are so stuck on these phones they blank out and keep using them, even after seeing the evidence.

A good way around this is making a little case for your cell phone and inline it with brass mesh that is very inexpensive it will block out the any information coming in or out to the cell phone...
