I cant get a job anywhere! Its getting out of hand now...Can you guys help?

I have a MBA, a economics degree, and several professional certificiations...but since I lost my real job two years ago, haven't been able to find comparable employment. So now I work at a hardware store stocking lumber...sure, I feel like an idiot, but you do what you have to, to make things work.

More specifically, if you can't get a mindless job you're an idiot. If you are unwilling to do a mindless job, you're a slacker....and you don't deserve shit.

Everyone always says to try McDonalds. It is actually DIFFICULT to get a job at McDonalds if you have ever tried. I've tried and never got a call back. They don't want to hire overqualified adults. They want to hire dumb kids they can push around.

Maybe you live in a place that has more openings. I sent out hundreds of resumes a couple of years ago, was interviewed by about four places and didn't get a job, even though I have many years of work experience and a graduate degree.

I am now working, but only part time. The reason I got this job is that I heard about it through a personal connection and I don't think the job was advertised.

It's tough out there.

If you apply for a position as a volunteer at your local Salvation Army or community soup kitchen you will find that your whole world outlook suddenly changes.

I just paid three guys to hang 25 sheets of dry wall in my basement. Thats a skill. Two of the guys didn't speak english. They aren't picking fruit.

But it isn't rocket science. They do it all day, every day, seven days a week and probably bring in $500 a day.

England is a tiny island and is full of people all wanting jobs . What has made it worse over the years , I am told by english ppl , is the huge influx from Poland and the Ukraine .

My aussie daughter just came back from one of those working visa to Briton . First , you only get paid 6 pounds an hrs for most ordinary jobs . And those ordinary jobs have huge amounts of people wanting them .
A call center job , the most basic job here , is near impossible to get there .The rigors they put you through .

I suggest the OP move out to OZ if they are still young , on one of those working , tourist visa , and find work here while you travel around . This countries in the process of being broken down by the usual means , so hurry up and get here while we are still doing well.

OP, you're one of the millions of victims of Austerity, so no it's not your fault.

You got about 3 options:

- get a cheap job until you find better opportunities, but face the consequences of being paid and treated like crap.

- I you made some economies, find a farm in an area that isn't too controlled and hyped for, with neighbors you can hang out with, and try to be as autonomous as you can.

- Fight back!

You have no idea how things are in the UK at the moment. There are NO lower level jobs here now, The ones usually there for students and in-betweeners have all been snapped up by fucking cheap Indians and eastern europeans.

Robin Ryan has 4 GREAT books out - from writing resumes to going to interviews. I found them on amazon, used, for probably $2 or less about 5 yrs ago.

Mostly geared to executives, but really good info you can extropolate to non-execs, too.
