Using the old testament to find charity or compassion or respect for others is an impossible task. Will there be icecream? Will there be toilet paper? Will I have to sweep the floor? Will we have servants? This line of thinking totally misses the point. Maybe I'm wrong but I dont get the impression that a universal god is a cold calculating lawyer type with endless numbing subparagraphs and codecils and gotcha clauses that can be interpreted in wildly different ways. The most holy concept would be fairly simply understood and is not compulsive slavish automatic obedience to ritual out of fear, but a nurturing forgiveness in the face of earnest desire to advance towards the heart of god the creator, which would be the culmination of forgiveness and effort towards achievement of goals that must be indirect and circuitous by nature, given that lack of any objective and personal interactions with the source. |
